TOPE POPOOLA- Comments on Facebook post of Moyo Okediji.

I know from comments here that a great deal of commentators either don't live in Nigeria or are elites who choose to live in denial. The Presidential election result in Lagos was a major shift in the political calculus of Nigeria. Those who voted massively for Obi and LP did so across ethnic divides. I have 2 children in Lagos. They are both Obidients. From VI, Lekki, Ikeja, youths voted massively for Obi and probably would have done same for GRV. As soon as the result was announced, the GLOATING and the BOASTING began. You need to see the virulence of it on Twitter. It was no longer about the intended shift or making a point against establishment. It suddenly became an ethnic thing, a victory for the power and influence of Ndigbo in Lagos. Some even brazenly made videos to that effect and the "no man's land" refrain suddenly started gaining traction. I was appalled by it all. I knew it would not end well. I saw many of those tweets and videos. One of my sons told me that some of the things he heard from Igbo guys made him regret casting his vote for Obi. There is no smoke without fire. It us interesting that when Yoruba people started responding to the unabashed provocation, the ethnic baiting started. If I cannot control the ferocity of your slap on my face, you cannot control the viciousness of my reaction. It's so unfortunate that an eye for an eye only makes everyone go blind!

Many of us are in foreign lands that have accommodated us without caring where we come from. Sometimes, we still struggle with racism even when we hold the passports of our host nations. Nonetheless, we dare not stand and abuse the sensibilities of our hosts. That is the issue here and should be divorced from blatant ethnicity and tribal bigotry. How come we didn't have all of these outrages till after election? And it is NOT because Tinubu lost to Obi in Lagos. That was made possible by people who just needed a change in Lagos. LP would probably have repeated that feat but for the issue I mentioned above. Prof and I were contemporaries in College and in our days, tribe and ethnicity were never issues. To a large extent, many Nigerians still think that way, especially in the SW where Ndigbo and other tribe's have been given ample room to flourish. I asked an Igbo friend to mention ONE Yoruba man who has one acre of land to his name in his part of Igboland. He could not.

Those who come to equity must always approach the table with clean hands. Igbos have thrived and continue to thrive unmolested in Lagos. They continue to contribute significantly to its economy. Ndigbo who mean well should address those who are stoking the fires among their elite, rather than complain about the attendant conflagration. Deal with the cause, the consequence will be taken care of.

Almost every Igbo person I attempted to engage in conversation on the candidacy of Obi when I was trying to decide who to support, responded with anger, attacks on my person and evidently ethnic slurs rather than reason. I had to DELIBERATELY rise above those pedantic narratives.

During #endsars, Nnamdi Kanu was on social media and Radio Bi.afra supervising and commanding the burning of BRT and public infrastructure in Lagos. I heard it myself, and people were calling him to update him as the they burnt down buses and police stations. He was particular and emphatic about Lagos and overrunning the city. I was shocked but, as a die-hard nationalist, I simply shrugged it off as the rantings of a deluded agitator. Lt.Col Victor Banjo, a Yoruba man was Ojukwu's friend and fought on the side of Biafra during the Civil War. He led many offensives against Federal troops and led the onslaught that captured the then Midwest. Then Ojukwu ordered him to proceed and take Lagos. Banjo refused that order. He was invited back to Enugu and Ojukwu personally supervised his execution as a traitor to the Biafran cause. I believe the last election only acted as a pin that pricked an inflated balloon.
The question in my mind in all of these is, *"WHY THE OBSESSION WITH LAGOS?"*🤔

What stops APC from sponsoring such ethnic campaigns by paying online influencers to say Lagos is no man's land so that Obidients would be indicted and hated?

Show a prominet Igbo person that made such comments! Anybody can create a Twitter account to push propaganda and Lagos-Ibadan espress has been known for that

Lagos, Lagos, Lagos. There's definitely a hidden agenda they're pushing concerning Lagos.

Nothing new here, and January 1966 comes to mind. The Coup planners were "Nationalists," the Coup executioners were ethnic chauvinists. Some of the Coup planners eventually realized they had been duped into an ethnic agenda.

Thousands of Yorubas who voted for Obi believed they were creating a new dispensation, only for many of them to find out they were "useful idiots" for a tribal mission.

A lot of Yoruba youths are forming too much of liberalism and until they're pushed aside by the same people they're cheering, then it will be too late for them to understand .

People from other region in Nigeria are acting like things are in order in their region while Southwest is in ruin and they have to correct it and to me it's delusional.

Woke Yoruba people, una eye go soon clear , make una continue dey position your yanch outside while you're urinating in the house and by the time your house is full of urine, there will be no place for you to run to anymore.

I stopped reading after the ignorant author asked if a Yoruba man has a land in Southeast.

These clowns expect Igbo people to beg them to come and buy land. They believe they are doing Igbo people a favour when Yorubas sold their land to Igbo people. The accomodating statement they brag about is obviously delusion, Igbo man gave you money and you gave him land, none did each other a favour, nothing like accommodation. Just a business transanction.

@ OP, u ooze of tribalism....you are certainly yoruba..and you asked your children not to vote for obi and they went against u....

you know how i know..? i work aas an intelligence office and has maastered the act of reading through the lines...sir, ur comment." i askked my igbo friends to list at least one yoru a man who owns a land in the southeast" gave u away..and its pathetic that u drew your conclusions on that

now thsee are reasons you aare young

1. your immidiate friends don not know everyone in the southeast, infact the visiit just thier state...

2. for your infor..the biggest hospital in owerri is owned by a Yoruba man

3. i know a docture lecturer who has lived in awka Anambra state for 27years being a lecturer althrough jt has refused to buy a land as cheap as 300k per plot in awka..citing " it is not my home"...you never took that into acct

4. you also didn't consider that yorubas hadky travel to dwell in the southeast..unlike the Southeasterns ,it is only a llman with a business in a land ,that thinks of owning such land..

now lets continue, u talked about " the rave, "lagos is no man's land" i will want to know....did u hear about the US claims that Russia meddled into their previous two elections..? do u imagine Russians trooped into the US to get involved..? have you heard of the word "propaganda" before, i guess not

do u know the FSB in Russia set up alot of phoney facebook, Instagram, AOL, twitter accountsa and gradually they push an anti a particular candidate citing a policies and alot of support and formed groups all around America...from.the internet they started to meet physically..that is how propaganda is done..and eventually shift the targeted groups focus away from what they belief...that is exacy what Tinibu and apc did..and it is very difficult to detect or even not to fall prey...

both your children and the online igbos fell for it and swallowed the sinker of which the main agent who carried out the job later surfaced to take credit...

plz sir, purge ur self of tribalism..obidient is not about tribe, its about forcing a change of old guards...it is only led by an igbo very clean man...

you have your choice to b stuck innthe 70's tribal dominated profiling...

Every Yoruba indigene who voted for Obi experienced this.
I've not changed my stance on Obi though as if it is between Atiku and Tinubu, ill still vote him but the ethnic dimensions this is taking is troubling to say the least.

Buhari tried it and saw that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the North Alone to get him the Presidency of Nigeria. If OBI wins, it isn't the Igbos alone that did it. They should thank the North Central, the Middle Belt, the South-South and Yorubas who made it possible.
