How A Seer In Israel Almost Anointed A God's Reject Leader Of God's People

Samuel was a rare kind of prophet. He had open visions at a time in Israel when it was said, "there was no open vision". 1 Samuel 3:1

Moreover God was with Samuel and ensured that none of his words fell to the ground. 1 Samuel 3:19

Yet there came a point where the same Samuel, almost anointed someone God had rejected, as king over Israel, whom God Himself called "My people".

This was after God had sent him to the house of Jesse to anoint His chosen one among Jesse's sons, as king in place of king Saul whom He had rejected as king of Israel.

1 Samuel 16:1 (KJV)

And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

1 Samuel 16:6 (KJV)

And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed is before him.

So Samuel the seer couldn't see that God had rejected the man. He was so sure Eliab was the "Lord's anointed".

That's how Samuel could have anointed a God's reject king over God's people, but thank God, God was there with Samuel to correct him in time before he made that grave error.

1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)

But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

That proves that being a true man of God, seer or prophet of God even in the Bible doesn't make any one of them inerrant, because they were also humans, hence their words could also be inspired of the flesh as that of Samuel concerning Eliab.

God bless.

The same applies to the apostles of Christ, because there was something apostle Peter said that made Jesus rebuke him saying, "get thee behind me, Satan..". Matthew 16:23

Also, apostles John and James had once made a comment to Jesus that made Him rebuke them saying, "you know not what spirit ye are of..". Luke 9:55-56

It would be hard for humans to detect any fault in what they said because they were also led of the flesh, but thank God Jesus who was fully led of the Spirit was also there, and hence able to immediately detect the error in what they'd said and consequently correct them on the spot, if not that's how some Christians today would be quoting what they said, as the Word of God because it emanated from true prophets or apostles of Christ in the Bible, despite the fact that they weren't inspired of the Spirit of God but of their flesh.

If Christ were physically present to give His opinion of every thing said of His apostles as He did on those occasions, we would be surprised to see how many times He would have rebuked them and corrected them as He had done on such occasions.

But unfortunately, He was not there physically with them because He had to leave them, so the Spirit of God would come and empower them spiritually for the task of preaching the Gospel to the world. However Jesus before leaving, ensured He made us have the next best thing to Him being physically present, which are His own Words, so we could use to x-ray whatever was His apostles or prophets of the Bible said, to see if they strayed or aligned with the Word of God or not.

Hence the specific instruction He gave to His disciples to teach all men to keep His Word before His departure from the earth.

Matthew 28:20 (KJV)

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus could have said all things or every word of all the true prophets and apostles of Christ in the Bible, but He didn't. He specifically mentioned His Own Word because while they could make mistakes and be led of the flesh a times as proven by the above examples, He couldn't, being always led of the Spirit, hence was perfect in all His Ways and Word and never made a single mistake.

Though such errors of the apostles of Christ or even the true prophets as Samuel, doesn't in any way mean they're false because they were indeed true, it proves that they were also humans, and while there were many servants, there's just one Master, Jesus Christ.

God bless.

Being led of the Spirit can also be very helpful to prevent one from making grave errors one could live to regret, as it did on that occasion to Samuel.

That has also helped me a lot because several occasions when I was so sure of something, the Holy Spirit would correct me, and that help me to avoid making such an error if I heeded His voice.

There were times also when I have not heeded his voice, and have paid dearly for it.

So having the Spirit of God guiding someone is essential as it could drastically reduce the amount of errors one makes and hence prevent one from suffering the consequence of such errors.

God bless.

Anytime the spirit leads people into a 40 day fasting, they finish it with the help of the spirit and come back in new measure of spiritual authority.

I wonder if certain people here can say same of themselves.
