Heavy Rain and Wind reportedly batters Iyara Community in Ijumu Local government area of Kogi state. The Rainstorm, lasting about an hour last weekend, damaged a lot of houses, pulling off numerous roofs and completely uprooting trees and shops. Some residential buildings and school were completely destroyed. More than 150 houses were reported to have been directly damaged by the storm which was said to be the worst experienced in a long time. Thankfully, no lives were lost but a number of people, including children were injured and many people lost their home. The Chairman of Ijumu government area, Alhaji Taofiq Isah, on assessing the damages, sympathised with the victims and the community, and called on the Federal and State government to help the affected citizens rebuild. I fear this heavy wind damage to roof thing. Where are they going to get money to repair it. I remember during heavy rain and strong wind me and my mother will be praying against such thing. Government should help them. Replacing the roof cost lot of money. Thanks to japa. I will not return to Nigeria until 2099. |
