If you are just joining the conversation it's good having you here. As we all know that no perfect family in the world everyone just trying to keep good ties with one another.

Today's topic is 'How Can Nigerian Mothers Prevent Premarital Sex Among Girls'. Once again welcome to board. Let's begin

My Opinion: Nowadays in Nigeria, girls are fond of engaging in sexual activities before getting married. Unlike before when there was low rate of underage sex. It is well known that girls are very important in the society because they are MOTHERS OF TOMORROW. How can we prevent premarital sex among girls?

Your responses are welcomed, please we want positive opinions.

Good this is coming from a man.
First, let the men stop disturbing them for sex. Men are the number one major cause of this premarital sex issue. I know how many men left because I told them no sex before marriage. The pressure from men in a relationship can make the weak ones give up their decency and give in to sex against their wish. For me, I was able to stand my grounds and not give in to pressure because I had a good home training, which takes me to number two.

Secondly, parents should start educating their girl child about sex at an early age and the consequences of indulging in it. They should also take pragmatic steps to monitor the child for any behavioral changes, moods and habits. A good parent should try to know the kind of friends their ward keeps.

My Mom taught me about the sensitive parts of my body at an early age of 5 . She told me not to allow anyone touch me in those areas and that I should run away from uncles. Then the emphasis was on big uncles ( as little boys were not much of a threat then. They were still innocent compared to what we have now) who were fund of sending little girls on errands just to get them into their rooms and finger or rape them. At that tender age, my mom told me about men fingering girls. So that sort of helped me tread with caution where other girls fell and we're either fingered and injured badly or raped. Even up to my adulthood, I still tread with caution around men. Till now I dey fear. Na only mouth I get.

It wasn't until I finished secondary school that I started allowing a guy to walk up to me. even then, we would be miles apart because the words of my mom was always ringing in my ears and my keeping my distance was so if the boy tries to hold my hand, I'll take off. Like serious take off o.

My dad on the other hand followed it up with serious discipline in the form of corporal punishment . If you're caught standing and chatting with a guy, he will flog the hell out of you and that boy will be dealt with. In fact, he made sure we all went to an all girls primary and secondary school so we don't get to mingle with the opposite sex. That was how pragmatic he was in making sure we were raised decently and I think it worked.

We were not allowed to attend or go for any non religious activities. It's only church activities like catchesm, baptizmal classes and children bazaars. As a result we were not really exposed to some bad things or lifestyle that will corrupt our minds and that was why it was easy for me to withstand and overcome the pressures from men asking to sleep with me before they can marry me. I didn't care if it was Otedolas son, Ill tell him to his face to go!

Another major cause is exposing them to indecent video contents , romantic movies and the likes. You'll see a whole family watching zeeworld. Before you know it, this children begin to fantasize about what they see. They begin to create a mental picture of those romantic movies and any slight opportunity they have they want to experiment with the opposite sex. Very easy for such to be layed by boys .
During our time, we were only allowed to watch TV programs that were age appropriate for children. The only adult movies we saw together as a family were frank Spencer, Tom Sawyer, Oliver twist, Jake and the fat man, Robin hood and films that didn't have erotic scenes like we have today.

Till now, I still live by those precepts and I don't regret it one bit cos it has helped me in so many ways to stay out of trouble and challenges. I also hope to train my children the same way.

God bless my parents.

It is not only the female child even the male child should stay away from pre marital s£x.
Teach your children and train them in the way of the Lord and they'll never depart from it. Prayer is the bedrock. Always pray for your children give alms on their behalf, let them have the fear of God in their heart always.

You asked a direct question, and instead of answering it, people are dodging it and talking other things.
Nigerians are frightened to death about discussing sex. lol

To answer your question, the short answer is it depends...
It depends on what age a female gets married.
Some marry relatively young (preferably, for reasons I shall post next), while others marry late.
By young I mean before the age of 20.

According to a detailed research literature review, it is better for a woman to have children early, have a lot of children, and breastfeed them to avoid reproductive cancers.

Therefore sex is not always a bad thing for young women. In fact it may be a good thing overall. The only problem is extramarital sex/childbirth at young age. If married, then a woman should exploit her FULL womanhood.
The point is that latter day advice given to women to delay childbirth is mistaken and dangerous.

Here is the research findings below:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Catholic nuns are committed to leading a celibate, spiritual life in a monastery or convent.
In 1713, Italian physician Bernadino Ramazzini 1 noted that nuns had an extremely high incidence of that “accursed pest”, breast
cancer. Today, the world’s 94 790 nuns still pay a terrible price for their chastity because they have a greatly
increased risk of breast, ovarian, and uterine cancers: the hazards of their nulliparity.
Fraumeni and colleagues 2 compiled data for cancer mortality rates in 31 658 Catholic nuns in the USA
between 1900 and 1954, and showed that nuns had an increased probability of dying from breast,
ovarian, and uterine cancer compared with the general population (figure).
MacMahon and colleagues 3 were the first investigators to make a formal link with parity, showing, in 1970, that parous women had a decreased risk of breast cancer compared with nulliparous women. Parous women receive further protection if they have
their first child at a young age, bear more children, and if they breastfeed. These reproductive factors are now
known also to protect against the risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer.

So, there you have it.
My advice is find your husband EARLY and have children EARLY, and breastfeed those children.
I chose to look at the glass as half full rather than half empty.

Love this..... Everything here can also be used for the male child..... We are so focused on the female child but the challenge is really from the male child

Why are you more concerned about girls than boys?

Are we talking about heterosexual sex (btw boys & girls) or lesbian sex (btw two girls)?

Because if it is the former, you are doing what generations past did & failed woefully:

You can't concentrate on one party for a crime/act committed by both parties.

As a religious person (I know most religions frown at pre-marital sex), both boys & girls should be trained to abstain from sex before marriage.

Yes, same goes for the male child. If you noticed, I mentioned that boys were more decent those days which was why my mom emphasized on the bigger uncles then. As little children we were free and safer with boys our age then because it was the same exposure and upbringing we had. Boys would rather watch Karate movies or wrestling and then they rode their tires on the streets so they were not really exposed to the kinda things children of nowadays are exposed to.

Ok, How many children ride tires today? How many do outdoor activities? They all want to sit at corner or secluded places and press mummy and daddy's phones. Some even have their own phones courtesy their careless parents who think it's a big deal my child is using a phone. So it goes both ways.

Someone suggested to remove the internet and I strongly agree because it's the internet that pops us so may uncensored contents where this children learn all the bad things you see them practicing.

It's starts from the home.
