THE OBSCURE CURE
Ravaged by diseases, we make friends of pills
And when our cells become too frail to fight,
Drugs step in, and the gaps they help to fill
Adroit and efficient, they swiftly set things right
Astounded with wonder, we eulogize their skill
And pay them homage with all our might.
But how in vain our entire labor for them are!
Our worship for the healing chemicals ought not to be
Neither should our need for them reach so far
For had we played a different song, though wee
A different reality would've shined on us like a star
And through the vista of a robust health, we start to see.
A medicine as rich and satisfying as nature itself
And gifted to us by lovely Mother nature herself
But blinded by familiarity, we push it from ourselves
Treating it with contempt, we thrust it out of our lives
And being a peace-lover this gift gently leaves
Leaving us to the fate we have decreed for our own selves.
We value and cherish the Panadol
And even master its dosage by heart
We know when to use the tramadol
Indeed it has almost become a skilled art
But towards nature's gift all we do is loll
Ignoring its power, despising its ample strength.
Oh, that we learn to laugh more and more
Is laughter not a potent and capable balm?
Even as forceful as the waves that rush ashore
Gentle as the breeze, to the cells it spreads calm
Let each of us say now: "I chose henceforth to laugh more
And treasure it as the print of my very palms."
