Dele Giwa was a Nigerian journalist and co-founder of Newswatch magazine, one of the most influential news publications in the country during the 1980s. He was known for his investigative journalism and his fearlessness in reporting on controversial topics, including corruption and political intrigue. However, his life was cut short on October 19, 1986, when he was assassinated in his own home.

The circumstances surrounding Giwa's death remain shrouded in mystery to this day. On the morning of October 19, Giwa received a package at his home in Ikeja, Lagos. The package was a parcel bomb, which exploded when Giwa opened it, fatally wounding him. He later died at the hospital.
