In a significant development for Nigerian politics, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the duly elected governor of Benue State, received a letter of congratulations from the outgoing governor, Samuel Ortom on Monday, 3rd April, 2023.

This gracious gesture was presented to Fr. Alia by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Transition Committee, Prof. Tony Ijoho, along with other key government officials.

Governor Ortom's letter not only offered his congratulations but also extended an official invitation to Fr. Alia to send a delegation from his camp to join the Transition Committee. This move demonstrates a willingness to work collaboratively and a smooth transition of power from the outgoing governor to the governor-elect.

The meeting, which took place at the Governor-elect's residence in Makurdi, was attended by Veronica Onyeke, the Head of Service to the Benue State Government, and Dr. Saawuan Tarnongo, the Commissioner for Education.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, Prof. Ijoho congratulated Fr. Alia on his victory at the polls and assured him of the readiness of the state government to provide all necessary support to ensure a smooth transition. He emphasized the importance of a seamless handover process in ensuring continuity of governance and development in the state.

In his response, Fr. Alia thanked the delegation for their visit and promised to work with them to ensure a seamless transition.

The Governor-elect, who is a renowned educationist and Catholic priest, also stressed the importance of education in the development of the state and promised to make it a top priority of his administration.

Benue State, which is located in the north central Nigeria, has been grappling with a number of challenges in recent years, including insecurity, unemployment, communal clashes, and economic hardship. However, there are high hopes that the incoming administration of Fr. Alia will be able to address these issues and move the state forward.

The handover ceremony is expected to take place on May 29, 2023, and many are looking forward to seeing what the new administration will bring to the table.
