Question About 4090 Adapter by jackaustin631: 11:32pm On Apr 04, 2023
I recently bought everything I needed for a new build, and I have the ASUS ROG Strix 4090 in my PC as we speak. I noticed that my PSU (Corsair RM1000X) only has three 8-pin connectors. I have one for the motherboard, and only two left.

The adapter for the GPU has 4 possible connectors, but I noticed that replacement 12+4 pins have only two 8-pin connectors.

So my question is, can I only use two of the MPO Adapter connectors to run my GPU? Is that safe? I'm neither overclocking nor trying to draw power any other way. I'm thinking it's fine simply because the replacement would draw the exact same power as two 8-pins.

it appears the 6+2 connectors can go into the GPU adapter, but can't go into the motherboard or PSU. That's what was throwing me off. I had 3 of those but couldn't make them work, but I never thought to try them with the adapter.

Still, I ordered a 600 watt adapter from Corsair, so it'll just be some bulky wires for a tiny bit.
