Lesson From 7 Words On The Cross by Sunreb(m): 7:43am On Apr 08, 2023
7 WORDS OF JESUS CHRIST ON THE CROSS

Jesus’ life on the cross shows us His sacrificial living and suffering towards the end of His ministry on earth.

To really understand the kind of life Jesus lived on the Cross, I will like to call your attention to the seven Words of Jesus Christ on the Cross.

Understanding His seven statements on the Cross could help you to live your life according to God’s will.

As you are going along with this message, the Holy Spirit will open your eyes to see those things you need to live your life indeed and help you to pray for their manifestation.

Here are the seven Words of Jesus on the Cross:

“FATHER FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING” (LUKKE 23:34)

According to the statement above, Jesus understood that the Jewish people does not understand what they were doing, because if they knew what they were doing they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

The knowledge of Jesus about their foolishness made Jesus prayed for their forgiveness because He knew they were not in their right mind.

Lesson: For you to forgive others, you must see them as those who do not understand what they were doing (you must accept others the way they are), no matter what they do to you.
Then, believe the Word of God, which says “All things work together for good for those who love the Lord” Romans 8:28.

Prayer: God give me understanding to obey the law of forgiveness in Jesus’ name.

Prayer: I destroy every force against right living in the name of Jesus. Romans 7:14-25.

“VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, TODAY SHALL THOU BE WITH ME IN PARADISE” (LUKE 23:43)

The event that led to the above statement was the case of the two thieves crucified with Christ. One of the thieves mocked Christ and the other rebuked him (the one who mocked Christ) and told his partner the truth he knew about Jesus Christ: “That Jesus has done nothing wrong.” He confessed his sins and finally prayed that Jesus should remember him in His kingdom. Luke 23:39-42.

Lesson: You must realize your sins, confess them, and pray to God for forgiveness.

Prayer: O God, help me to know the truth and let the truth set me free from the power of sin. John 8:32.

“WOMAN BEHOLD YOUR SON AND SON BEHOLD YOUR MOTHER” (JOHN 19:26-27)

The statement above shows us two things.

First thing - Jesus comforted his mother by pointing to John- the beloved (one of the Apostles) as her son.

Second thing - Jesus committed the welfare of his mother to John the beloved.

Lesson: you must be a comforter to people around you, and find means of caring for them.

Prayer: God, empower me to meet the needs of the needy in Jesus’ name.

“MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?” (MATTHEW 27: 46)

Darkness covered Jesus Christ, to the point He felt rejected by God and he shouted “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Lesson: Do not hide your feeling, express it, and let God know what you are passing through in any situation.

Prayer: God of light take me out from any form of darkness that enemy has used to cover my life in the name of Jesus.

“I AM THIRSTY” (JOHN 19:28)

Jesus Christ is the source of the living water, but was still thirsty because of our salvation. He was given wine vinegar instead of water because of you.

My reader, what do you want to give Him? Think of it.

Lesson: God needs your life and more of your dedication to Him.

Prayer: God, do not allow the suffering of Jesus to be in vain over my life.

“IT IS FINISHED” (JOHN19:30)

The word uttered by Jesus here is telling us about the fulfillment of the work of redemption that Christ came to do on earth. This short statement “It is finished” opened the door of salvation for human race.

This statement shows that Jesus Christ was ready to die because He has fulfilled His purpose on Earth.

Let me tell you that you are only qualify to die when you have fulfilled your purpose on Earth.

This statement also means that end has come to His sufferings and to any damage man could do to Him.

To us, this statement means end has come to problem, sickness, and poverty in our lives.

In our land it means end has come to scarcity of good things and others challenges battling with our nation.

Lesson: You must try to complete the assignment given to you by God.

Prayer: Heavenly father, let the work of salvation be perfected in me, in the name of Jesus.

Prayer: I receive the grace of God to complete my assignment on earth in the name of Jesus.

Prayer: I declare that premature death is not my portion, I will be alive to fulfill God's purpose in the name of Jesus.

Prayer: Scarcity of good things, I declare that end has come to you in our land in the name of Jesus.

“FATHER IN YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT” (LUKE 23:46)

Jesus knew that His spirit must return to God, because he knew the sure safety in God.

Lesson: You must value your spirit and commit it to godly things that will keep it to eternity.

Prayer: In the name of Jesus, deliver my spirit from every evil I have committed it to.

With the seven Words of Christ on the cross I have shared with you; I believe you have seen the kind of life Christ lived, compared with the one you are living now.

Apostle Paul says, “The preaching of the cross to those who are perishing is foolishness but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” –Corinthians 1:18.

As you are celebrating Easter Festival, I enjoin you to consider the suffering of Jesus on the cross for your salvation by confessing your sins and giving your life to Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and saviour if you have not done so.

To us who have already known Christ let us see this message as one of the ingredients to continue in our Christian living.

Happy Easter to you all in Jesus’ name!
