The Evidence Bible

I love apologetics. In fact, "The Evidence Bible" is filled with hundreds if not thousands of them. However, it's important to know that if you want to be effective in reaching the unsaved not to spend too much time addressing their "carnal" mind with apologetics, because that is where they harbour their hostility towards God's moral requirements (see Romans 8:7).

Give them answers, but always keep in mind that the Bible tells us that they are "enemies of God in their minds" (see Colossians 1:21). So we must make sure we do what Jesus did and address the ally of their conscience, using the moral Law (the Ten Commandments). A. W. Pink said,

"Just as the world was not ready for the New Testament before it received the Old, just as the Jews were not prepared for the ministry of Christ until John the Baptist had gone before Him with his clamant call to repentance, so the unsaved are in no condition today for the Gospel till the Law be applied to their hearts, for 'by the Law is the knowledge of sin' (Romans 3:20). It is a waste of time to sow seed on ground which has never been ploughed or spaded! To present the vicarious sacrifice of Christ to those whose dominant passion is to take their fill of sin, is to give that which is holy unto the dogs. What the unconverted need to hear about is the character of Him with whom they have to do, His claims upon them, His righteous demands, and the infinite enormity of disregarding Him and going their own way."

Most of those denominations agree on the basic tenants of the Christian faith. Only on non-essential doctrines there is disagreement.

However, it's human nature to disagree about almost everything. I'm sure you would agree with that.

"If there is a Judgment Day, my good deeds will eliminate the bad deeds."

That doesn't even work in a court of law, and it won't work on Judgment Day. If a criminal has committed a very serious crime, his good deeds will not wash away his crimes.

Our sins against God are so serious they warrant the death sentence.

You need mercy from the Judge, and God is rich in mercy to all those that call upon Him.

An old drunk once stumbled along a sidewalk heading for his home. His faithful dog saw him approaching and watched his every move. As he entered his home, his dog joyfully followed him. No one can answer that but God. Make peace with Him and if you ask in humility, He may reveal it to you. In the meanwhile, don’t end up in Hell being punished for your many sins, just because this bothers you.

Someone commented, (in reference as to how we should share our faith) "I ask 'Do you know Jesus?' I do this mostly when I feel led by the spirit, and the person is eager to know about Jesus. If they do not, or are not interested they usually leave quickly, which I cannot control, but am happy for the ones who are open and ready to hear the word."

I would like to address the above sincere answer, and in doing so I hope I don’t offend the person who wrote this.

First, I never feel led by the Spirit. I am a child of God and the Bible says that because of that I’m led by the Spirit whether I feel Him or not (see Romans 8:14).

I have been commanded to go into ALL the world and preach the gospel to EVERY creature (see Mark 16:15) so why should I wait for feelings? If I went by what I feel I wouldn’t open my mouth, because most of the time all I feel is fear.

Second, we can "control" whether or not people are interested by how we approach them. If I walked up to strangers and asked "Do you know Jesus?" I’m sure I wouldn’t get to share the gospel with many unsaved people. The Bible says that sinners love the darkness and hate the light, so if I want to bring light to them I must do it in gentleness. If someone is in total darkness and I shine a flashlight into his eyes, I shouldn’t be surprised if he is offended.

I prefer to follow the example Jesus gave with the woman at the well. He spoke to her of natural things first (water), then He deliberately swung to the spiritual, and then He used God’s Law to bring a knowledge of sin (7th Commandment).
