Intellectualism is important in a society, intellectualism is the spread of sound reason, knowledge, and understanding of things, and why things are the way they are...it is trying to find the best and most feasible solutions to societal challenges, by figuring out best approach and governance systems, that will better suit our ways of living, as per our culture, traditions, history and who we are.

Intellectualism breeds a conscious, intelligent people, a people who understands that value, and inputs are what society needs to thrive, value is the creation of utility, creation of opportunities, creation of tools, that help people advance, and reach their goals and aspirations.

An intellectually advanced society thrives, because they are not influenced by tribal, and nepotistic sentiments over value and reason. Intellectuals are not easily swayed by popular opinion, and intellectual only cares about the validity and truth in a theory, proposition or analogy.

As a nation we will benefit from imbibing intellectualism in our society, it's traits and habits will help us foster practical good governance, as we will support and elect people based on the value, impact and evidence of laudable past deeds, intellectualism will help every individual see his or her role, and would move every Nigerian into a value based, pragmatic school of thought individual. For the intellectual, fact, empirical evidence, reason, truth, logic are his or her foundation, and these comes first, even before tribal leanings and sentiments.
