It’s Monday bank holiday in England today, as the weekend celebration of the coronation of King Charles III continues. In the midst of the grandeur and opulence that surrounded the historical event, the identity of the King was unquestionable. The message of embracing one’s identity could not be over-flogged as the King and his Queen both wore the crown and strutted their stuff.

As we age, our physical attributes may go sideways or downwards, and it is ok to be self-conscious about these changes. King Charles III’s coronation, however, demonstrated that ageing may also be a thing of power and beauty. He wears his crown with pride at the age of 73, signifying the knowledge, insight, and leadership he has attained during his life.

Growing older can cause anxiety and uncertainty for many elderly people, especially in a culture that places a premium on youth and beauty. The crowning of King Charles III, however, demonstrates that growing older may also be a source of strength and pride. It serves as a reminder that our value is determined by the special traits and experiences that make us who we are, not by how we seem or how old we are.

“Wear your crown, strut your stuff” also refers to embracing our genuine selves in the face of acceptance of ageing and exclusion issues, social pressures and expectations. The crowning of King Charles III was a celebration of his background, position, and personality as well as a warning to elderly people to accept their true selves.

Dame Marian Akintola - Founder MASC Care HomeIt’s crucial to keep in mind that true beauty comes from within in a society where social media and advertising frequently define what is deemed beautiful. It involves accepting and proudly displaying our imperfections, eccentricities, and distinctive features. By strutting our stuff and wearing our crowns, we encourage other senior citizens to follow suit and foster an elderly-inclusive community that is more welcoming and accepting of all people.

In summary, King Charles III’s recent coronation was more than just a formality. It was a celebration of identity, aging, and self-assurance. It demonstrated to us that our value is determined by who we are as people, not by how old or attractive we are.

Finally, acceptance of who we are is more from who we are within. “As a man sees himself, so he is”. Why don’t we all wear our crowns with pride and strut our stuff with assurance? Let’s all accept who we truly are and encourage others to do the same.
