Dear Managers,

The appraisal period is not called "Payback Time" it is called "Performance Review Period".

Managers should not wait till appraisal time to give both positive and constructive feedback on an employee's performance, this should be done before that time.

An employee should not find out only during an appraisal that they made an error, miscommunicated, or did not carry out a project as expected. Let employees know about their performance at all times before appraisal.

Stop ⛔⛔ correcting an error that happened 7 months ago during appraisal. Learn to correct those errors as soon as they happen to avoid reoccurrence.

Stop telling your team members, "Am I not the one that will do your appraisal, you will see what score I will give you".

Give regular feedback to Employees at all times so they can know their areas of gap and work on them to ensure improvement. Progressive feedback is critically important.

An appraisal is not a Vendetta!

This is one quality amongst others that I love about my manager.

She let's you know your performance level at every given point in time without having to wait for the performance review period. If it is negative feedback, she communicates with you and give suggestions on how best your performance can level up without making you feel less of yourself.

At the end of the session, she tells you "YOU CAN DO IT AND I AM HERE FOR YOU" with a lovely smile that gives you a sense of belonging.

You just see yourself wanting to do better without being pressured.

I love her so much!

Many so-called managers need to learn and re-learn how to manage people. It is difficult to manage people but it is also very easy to manage people if the manager doesn't feel too bossy to do so. Constant and regular feedbacks will help improve your that employee and ultimately give the manager the time to address other important issues. Continuous Vendetta during appraisal periods indirectly affects the performance of the business in the long run

Thank you for sharing this insightful piece.
For me, I do not think the concept of appraisal is transparent because some managers are sentimental and not objective in the performance assessment, no matter how much efforts made by an employee or a worker in the sight of such a manager he or she will be rated poorly.
Hence for maximum productivity I feel that concept of appraisal. should trashed into the trash can.
