The Tertiary Education Summit, which is part of the Nigerian Book Fair Trust's annual program, is finally taking place today. This new initiative aims to address the pressing issues that plague the tertiary education sector in Nigeria. One of the most prominent challenges is the ongoing conflicts between the government and staff members of tertiary institutions, which have detrimental effects on the present and future of Nigerian students. Recognizing the urgent need for a lasting solution to these problems, the Nigerian Book Fair Trust included the Tertiary Education Summit in this year's Nigeria International Book Fair.
The main objective of the summit is to bring together key stakeholders who can contribute to resolving the crises in the tertiary education sector. Notable attendees include Prof. Lilian Salami, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Benin City, and the Chairperson of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities. Prof. Salami will deliver the keynote address, sharing insights and perspectives on how to tackle the challenges faced by Nigerian tertiary education.
The Tertiary Education Summit will be held in Hall B, where experts from various tiers of tertiary education in Nigeria will engage in discussions and debates centered around this year's chosen theme: "Fresh Ideas for Overhauling Nigeria's Tertiary Education Complex." The goal is to generate innovative and practical solutions that can bring about significant improvements to the system.
Simultaneously, in Hall B, there will be a Booksellers' Programme, providing a platform for book vendors and publishers to showcase their offerings and engage with attendees. This program aims to promote literacy and provide access to educational resources for students and educators alike.
Furthermore, in the Children Pavilion, located in Hall A, there will be various activities and competitions organized for children, including schools competitions. These activities aim to nurture a love for reading and learning among young learners, fostering a passion for education from an early age.
Throughout the day, the Book Exhibition will continue in Hall A, offering a diverse array of books from different genres and subjects. This exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for attendees to explore and discover new titles, fostering a culture of reading and knowledge acquisition.
