Can You Use Social Media And Still Be Holy? by PeterObi4Presid: 4:13pm On May 14, 2023
So I've been wanting to be closer to God for certain reasons. And in most of my struggles to keep focus on God I realise social media is a great obstacle cos somehow we depend on it for entertainment, news, business and update from our network.
Now the option is to let go of social media
But then I quickly realise how difficult it is
.
The question is how can one best use social media and still live in moderacy and not wander away into territories on the internet that soil ones spirit
Or is it totally impossible?
For instance.
Twitter is full of mindless chatters, argument and even porn.
Tiktok and Instagram is even a no go area cos they are both colonised by people displaying worldly dance, ass, and glamorous Nonsense. I believe a Christian who's very active there will struggle with closet sin...
Even ordinary WhatsApp sometimes can come with it's temptation from viewing certain status...and chatting with some people that will drag u to sin.
..
So how do Christians manage their social media and focus on their purity...can both go together...and how.
.
Please, I don't want lies...
Most times when I fast, I unplug from social media cos I know how it can be distractive, but after fast, I soon find myself locked into it.
.
I will appreciate responses on how to manage internet and social media while working on personal purity and focus on God

Politics will make you unholy, social media is just one out of Satan's uncountable tools but while you can avoid pitfalls on social media you can't survive politics without becoming evil! smiley

I'm saying there's no point quitting the social media for something that you will still meet in reality.
If you want to be serious you have to quit everything that stops you from being holy. Including your phone. Start from there!

Oh...that's even a more radical approach...thanks for the input
.
But does that mean there's rare chance of purity with using social media and phone?....I want ur general opinion.

I do not believe in the concept of purification, gods!
But I will give you my opinion. Quitting social media does not make one Holy, nor does using social media make one unholy.

You could argue that quitting social media is a way to focus on one's spiritual development, and that this is a Holy act. However, this would depend on your personal definition of Holy. Similarly, using social media could be seen as an unholy act if you believe that it is a distraction from more important things. However, again, this would depend on the individual's personal beliefs.

Ultimately, whether quitting social media or using social media is Holy or unholy is up to the individual. What is important is that an individual's beliefs are in line with their actions.

Let's begin by ironing out what you think it means to be holy, @OP. Holiness, as far as Scripture has it means existing in a state of continuous compliance/perfection even with the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ. And as Jesus Christ explained in His Gospel, the only way to achieve this is to — through serious self-discipline and self-control — live your life in continuous submission and obedience to the teachings and Commandments of Jesus Christ, God's Truth and Law in the Kingdom of God, by which you are then set free from slavery to sin by the same Truth of God. undecided

One thing to note is that Jesus Christ never preached avoidance as the way to overcome temptation or sin(disobedience). Rather, Jesus continuously urged His followers to discipline themselves in order to choose obedience over disobedience(sin) each and every time. He said those who love Him are those who obey His teachings and commandments; they are also those that He loves. Now, since Jesus Christ didn't tell His followers to walk around with their eyes closed in order to avoid temptation and sin, I think it makes sense to tell you, OP, that social media isn't to blame for any person's weakness as far as sin and temptation is concerned. undecided

Sometimes I imagine, if Jesus and his disciples were alive today, what would be their approach toward phones, internet and social media in relation to their gospel and work of God?

Jesus Christ hung out with sinners and even prostitutes so I am certain He would have no issue with such tools. The problem you are having there does not relate to Jesus Christ or His Gospel as it has more to do with personal discipline and self-control. To be a disciple of Jesus Christ means you need to develop serious self-discipline and self-control, that is the only way you can accept and obey His every teaching and commandments. So, if you are serious about Jesus Christ, then begin ridding yourself of the weaknesses that keep you from choosing disobedience(sin) over obedience. undecided
