The Development of the New Onitsha (Ikenga City) on the Obosi/Odekpe marshland Ogbaru local government Anambra State.
Already committees are being set up by the government and consultations going on. Substantial parts of the vas area is government owned while efforts are being made to reclaim other parts from surrounding communities with adequate compensations.
The New City will boast of a vast industrial district, modern residential areas for the upperclass, middle class and working class, a modern university and world class sports facilities etc.
This New city is anticipated to expand into Ekwusigo local government in the future.
The governor is understood to have so far resisted the pressure from some quarters who in their usual kiosk mentality want the place to just be carved up this for another “4,5 deckings” mess. Insisting that what he has in mind would be better that the Abuja master plan that was developed in the ‘70s.
First map is showing a prototype and the other showing the area to be developed delineated in bright yellow and the third picture chowing the area beyond those buildings and the new Second Niger bridge bypasses, just about half a kilometer from Onitsha/Owerri Rd, Onitsha.
May God give our governor the courage and the political will to see this gigantic project a success.

What you currently have is a town. Please support him to build a city with others so that other Nigerians can feel safe enough to call the place home away from home like Lagos,Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Akure PH and Ibadan are to all Nigerians from sun up to sun down every day including Mondays.

Hopefully, I think they should put all the money in 'the old city'. No matter what if there is a new estate and an old estate, the old estate will drop in value and become poorer. Modernize the old estate and it becomes richer. But the new estate will only be a place where people who are already wealthy will buy a second or 3rd home, many of which won't be ppl who live in the city or spend up to a week in the house every year. You cannot build a city with this kind of population.

Go to where ppl are already living and improve it. It is easier to modernize a building than to build something from scratch then begin modernizing.
