ARC-P And Its Benefits On The Incoming Administration

As the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari wraps up his administration, it is important to examine how much his achievements have impacted the “talakawas” especially policies implemented to tackle poverty and give a long-term socioeconomic development support to the vulnerable and downtrodden.

One of such is the At-Risk Children Programme (ARC-P) domiciled under the Office of the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social investment, Maryam Uwais, MFR.

The initiative was conceived to reduce the number of out-of-school children who are above 20.5 million, and drastically combat the increasing rate of number of vulnerable women in the society.

ARC-P program has been well structured and revamped to respond to the peculiarities of the youths who make a large number of the population.

Since it’s implementation, the program has collaborated with State Governments and donor agencies in training the youth and vulnerable on life basic skills that will enable them to reach their full potential. In turn, the trainees are using the skills and knowledge gained from the program to develop their community and change the future of the state.

One of the implementation strategies deployed to this fantastic program is the training of youth facilitators in enhancing their knowledge and understanding of basic subject matters and life skills to be able to coach the ARC-P primary beneficiaries with a view to supporting them to be reintegrated back to the communities.

To a very much large extent, these challenges are being tackled. Beneficiaries in Sokoto, Kaduna, Gombe are now proud of the difference they all are making in their respective communities.

With this program, hope has been renewed for children who found themselves in a disadvantaged position in life. Today, they’ve become an integral part of the society and play a vital role in their immediate community.

However, as a new President resumes office on Monday, a timely humanitarian initiative of this magnitude should not come to an end with the present administration, but be sustained to benefit more people from the East to the West and from North to the South.

The incoming administration should give full support to the continuation of the program so as to promote economic growth and improve the quality of lives in the society.
