OLAADEGBU: My brother, were you reading my mind ? I was just about to mention exactly the same , that Christians should proceed with caution when using Dakes bible or not use it all !!! Need i say more. |

So by what authority did King James "authorize" his 'bible'? By Divine authority of his own self-proclaimed human authority? |
Re: Which Version Of The Bible Do You Read And Why? by OLAADEGBU(m): 11:26pm On Oct 01, 2011 |
italo: Your answer is in this videoclip where you will see that the authorised version is a result of God's answer to William Tyndale's prayer while he was being burnt at the stake by your people for translating the word of God into the English language. His prayer was that the Lord open the eyes of the king of England. See how God swiftly answered that prayer. [flash=500,400] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9X_NeFacdI?version=3&hl=en_GB[/flash] |

Re: Which Version Of The Bible Do You Read And Why? by italo: 5:17am On Oct 02, 2011 |
OLAADEGBU: sorry, but there's nothing in the video that proves that either tyndale or king james had divine authority to translate the bible. and i am yet to find proof that the catholic church killed tyndale. so if i pray that jonathan's eyes should be opened and he translates the bible into pidgin, does that mean he has divine authority to translate the bible? |
Re: Which Version Of The Bible Do You Read And Why? by Knight1(m): 10:47am On Oct 03, 2011 |
I PERSONALLY PREFER TO READ KJV BECAUSE IT'S EASY FOR ME TO MEMORISE AND IT'S KIND OF POETIC GIVING IT A 'POWER' EFFECT THE MESSAGE IS A TRANSLATION I REALLY LIKE BECAUSE IT WAS REALLY THOROUGHLY DONE, THE CONTEXT ET AL BUT WILL ADVISE MOST PEOPLE NOT TO READ ALONE; TRY READING IT IN PARALLEL WITH ANOTHER TRANSLATION OLAADEGBU:REALLY!!! I HAVE NEVER USED IT BUT I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE HOLD IT WITH HIGH LEVEL OF REGARD |
Re: Which Version Of The Bible Do You Read And Why? by OLAADEGBU(m): 11:57am On Oct 04, 2011 |
italo: Did you watch it up to part 3? What King James did was to approve of the translation of the Bible into English Language which your pope disapproved as he will not have people have the word of God as their final authority over his. So it is the authority of the Bible vs the authority of the pope. Who do you think has the final authority in your life and actions? italo: If you watched the 3 parts of the videolink suggested and read about the attack on the word of God in the link suggested earlier you will have an idea who the Jesuits really are and who they work for. italo: Like the video shows, anyone who dared translate 'Latin Bible' into the common language without the pope's approval was executed. Tyndale's prayer was answered and as a result of this everyone can now read and understand the word of God because of the KJV and God still has the final authority to those who believe and receive the Word of God over human tradition or ideologies. The just shall live by faith. |

Knight1: That's one of the many good points for the authorised version. Knight1: Reading them may be interesting but it is better to let God speak to you from the authorised version instead of reading the interpretation of others. Knight1: The Dake's anotated reference Bible is the authorised version. The commentaries are also good but they are tainted with a little poison which many great men of God have swallowed hook, line and sinker and have made a shipwreck of their faiths. |

Reading them may be interesting but it is better to let God speak to you from the authorised version instead of reading the interpretation of others. i strongly disagree with the the above. 1. GOd is not restrained by the 'non-authorised' versions 2. comprehending the words of kjv is not so easy for others as it is for you. e.g evil concupiscence in kjv; some will just read on and not bother to get the meaning 3. the contemporary translations e.g NIV, NLT were not done using the KJV, they EQUALLY reverted to the Aramaic and Greek manuscripts from which the KJV was translated 4. these new versions have existed for some years now, for all intents and purposes, i haven't seen any one who has claimed that they have any error, both in text and meaning; as a matter of fact, it is the (old) KJV that was said to have contained some slight errors (check the preface of RSV bible) which is possible because our enlightenment grows day by day .even the so Radical The MEssage puts forward to all extents possible the accurate meaning of the words that were written in Scripture. therefore, i do not believe it is 'better for God' or 'better for me' to read KJV especially if i am a person that doesn't really grasp old english. AS i said earlier, i personally prefer it but will not tell anyone that it is the best translation they can get, cos it might just not be the best for them!!! btw look at it this way, if the english that we speak today was what was spoken in those days of king james, the 'AUTHORISED' KJV will probably be the exact same as the version we all know as NIV! |
Re: Which Version Of The Bible Do You Read And Why? by OLAADEGBU(m): 1:17pm On Oct 04, 2011 |
@Knight1, Don't get me wrong. You can use Bible helps and some of these translations so as to get a better understanding of the old words but you don't have to rely on these for the reasons shown in the link below. Many of these new versions make people to doubt the word of God instead of believing it. Click on the suggested link and get a brief historical background as to how we arrived at our different versions and this will explain to you why I said that the authorised version is the closest thing we've got to the original manuscript. http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0031/0031_01.asp |

I read with seeming interest about all submissions 1. I do read the KJV sometimes parallel with RSV 2. The translations of the Bible have not watered down the message 3. I'm really sorry to say this 'NAIRALAND' have produced or rather exposes PHUUULS (no pun intended) rather than thinkers. I believe that u contribute meaningfully not DERAILING. 4. About Dake reference, I'd say that I personally detected some 'nuclear bombs' planted. That's why a spirit-filled person can neva be affected. |

so if i pray that jonathan's eyes should be opened and he translates the bible into pidgin, does that mean he has divine authority to translate the bible? And yes, the Pope has the final authority over the Bible because the Pope is the head of the Church and the Bible says the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth. It was the Church that brought about the Bible by the divine authority as the successors of the apostles. King james had no authority to touch the word of God. Its only one with authoritty that can authorize anything. Only an insane person will say that Thomas Edison who invented the electric bulb didn't want people to use it Or that the Catholic Church that brought about the Bible doesn't want the world to read the Bible. Did Jesus institute the Bible or the Church? |

Re: Which Version Of The Bible Do You Read And Why? by Knight1(m): 9:17pm On Oct 04, 2011 |
italo: You are so so so so so so misdirected. the church has one HEAD. the name of that HEAD is JESUS. the HEAD of the church doesn't change after every few years. the church is not an institution made by men!!! @OLAD that video is what i'll term as extremist. why? being liable to judgement is not a pronouncation of guilt!!! it means what you have done will be subject to scrutiny and if found wanting, you will be served the penalty. with due respect, it is the same thinking line as those who say 'judge not' without reading what the next part says for in the way you judge, you also shall be judged. JUDGEMENT is not a pronouncement of guilt. if i say God will judge you, does that mean he will punish you? NO! unless what you have done is worthy of punishment. What Jesus says in that passage is a caution against anger which cuts across all other translations! |

Knight1: There is no amount of hermeneutics that can justify the subtraction of the Word of God. This is the war satan has been waging on the word of God since the 'old serpent' asked Eve, "has God said?" Whenever you've got the time watch the untold story of how we came about the Bible in the film below: [flash=500,400] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNZ-sOzXWEk?version=3&hl=en_GB[/flash] |
Re: Which Version Of The Bible Do You Read And Why? by Nobody: 11:15pm On Oct 04, 2011 |
OLAADEGBU: Not sure I agree with what this guy is saying in its entirety. My main bibles are Kings James . However I also have the NIV and NLT for the purpose of breaking down the archaic English mainly for those who find the Kings James bible too difficult to understand. Some people I know especially children , find it difficult to comprehend the KJV bible. So in my opinion forcing them to read the bible in Shakespearean English is legalism. Just my own perception. Besides the NIV bible never called Jesus a sinner, these bibles were translated straight from the original manuscripts. We can easily deduce what Jesus meant when he said if you are angry with a brother or sister. |

These translations are how the translators best understand them. frosbel: Really? Can you tell me what you consider to be the original manuscripts? Is it the Alexandrian or Textus Receptus manuscripts? frosbel: Did you see aletheia's response to Alhaji-paistor-oluwo's claim? |
