My first time of voting in Nigeria was during the JUNE 12 Presidential election. I voted for the SDP, MKO Abiola at the Griffin Methodist Primary School, Akeetan Oyo in Oyo West LGA of Oyo State. We queued behind SDP and Abiola picture. I followed the result until it was annulled. The annulment traumatised me greatly, I felt a terrible sorrow, like I felt later in 2020 when my Dad died. I couldn't sleep. The agony eventually radicalised me but I had to move on because I was just entering higher institution then and I needed to move on with the hope that Abiola would regain his annulled mandate.

I participated fully in the June 12, 1993 riots. Our gathering spot was in front of the then Broda Chemist Shop, Owode, Oyo. It was a riot of hope. Then, there was no social media, no privately owned TV or radio stations. And the only privately owned newspapers and magazines that reported the truth were all proscribed. We were absolutely incommunicado!

Then, the Military bombarded us, we were brutally dispersed. Abiola was eventually, arrested, detained, his beautiful wife, Kudirat murdered! Alfred Rewane murdered. Abiola's businesses destroyed, Abiola himself was later declared dead and our agony worsened. We were extremely angry and frustrated. All we wanted was justice not separation!

NADECO led the struggle, Tinubu was in the struggle, had to escape from the military after being detained and his house bombed! He was fighting from Diaspora.

The military succumbed in 1999 but they gave power to their friends, not to June 12 people. And the struggle continued, this time, democratically. In 2015, Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu won the established antiJune12 arrangement and HOPE started rekindling.

Buhari wasted no time, he declared June 12 as democracy day, conferred GCFR on Abiola and GCON on Fawehinmi. He engraved Kudirat Abiola in the Hall of Fame, this was a giant start of healing.

But the real deal is that tomorrow, May 29, 2023, the man who followed Abiola to a strategic but futile meeting with the military junta 30 years ago, who was eventually jailed by the military but released on bail, the man who spent his fortune to actualize June 12 election, restrategised to demobilise the military's alternative solution to June 12 in 1999 and fought until he removed them in power in 2015, that man, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the builder of great men and moderniser of the New Lagos, will be the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 🇳🇬
