The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has urged the Federal Government to revert to status quo over its decision to remove fuel subsidy.

Mr Festus Osifo, TUC President, spoke while addressing newsmen at the end of an emergency meeting of the congress’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Friday in Abuja.

According to Osifo, the TUC is unhappy with the unilateral decision of the Federal Government to remove the subsidy.

He said the TUC’s expectation was that the government should have engaged Organised labour.

“Having noted this, we wish to state that the NEC-in- session resolved that discussions with Federal Government should continue while demanding that the government should revert to the status quo ante.

“The status quo ante should be maintained while discussions continue as we had a meeting with the government on Wednesday.

“During that discussion, they gave us a list of all the things they would do and they also demanded to know our thinking and what we are putting up.

“We told them the lists of the things we want to put forward, we will not submit them now but put them forward to our organs, to discuss and seek a mandate from them of the things we can put forward,’ ‘he said.

According to Osifo, it is how the government reacts to TUC’s demands that will determine the union’s next line of action.

“We will wait till Sunday when we will meet with the representatives of the government.

“Once we are done with that meeting then the TUC is going to put its demands forward, it is how they react to those demands that will determine our next line of action, ”he said.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress also had its NEC meeting and has said it will embark on a nationwide strike from June 7 if the issue of fuel subsidy removal and increase in the price of fuel is not reverted.

Reactions are expected and normal. Those thieves will not let it go easily but we are wise now. Why was the neighboring countries feeling the pains over subside removal? No going back.

Nigerians understand very well that proceeds from subsidy removal will be used to develop the country, build road, hospitals and other infrastructures. We appreciate that so much and excited to see a better country but the only problem is that WE DON'T TRUST POLITICIANS

We have done our best as the electorates to vote even though some lose while others win but God chooses.
What I pray is that any government that will cause hardship on the hardworking population of Nigeria will never succeed

They will cry, it’s like they are all MAD. Tinubu will proscribe TUC and NLC and banish the two rogue associations for ever. Go and find out what he did in Lagos to Lagos NLC. You will be disbanded forever

It’s like you think this is Goatluck Jonathan whom you can intimate into submission, you are wrong. This is Emilokan Tinubu, the Civilian General that did what the military generals could not do. What General Olusegun Obasanjo, General Muhammadu Buhari, Alh. Umar Yar’Adua and Christian Brother Goatluck Jonathan could not do for 24 years, Emilokan Bola Ahmed Tinubu the Jagaban Borgu City Boy Extraordinaire did it in the first 30 minutes of his government.

The generational fraudulent fuel subsidy is gone forever. Expect more hard decisions in order to rebuild the faulty foundation of this country

Nigeria is just catching up with the world.

It's like a family restaurant where all the family members are eating away all the profits and expecting growth.

For the good of this nation, subsidy must go!!!

There’s nothing like “wait for a better time”

Shun tribalism and disregard religious sentiments.

Let’s join hands to kill subsidy, let’s push it out of our borders totally.

Removing subsidy without proper consultation with relevant stakeholders is a big no to me. You consult first before you dabble into an important issue like subsidy removal.

No going back! We already getting used to it, going back will jeopardize everything, but benefits and also the palliatives to cushion the effect of the subsidy is what I expect from federal government to start rolling out now

The way Tinubu’s men are attacking NLC and TUC leadership shows how dirty Tinubu’s politics is. Asking workers to ignore their Labour union leadership is just so despicable.

You removed subsidy before engaging stake holders, what was he expecting? We should all start worshipping him despite the untold suffering of Nigerians.

Someone that moves with over 60 vehicles on his convoy and currently have 10 presidential jets is telling Nigerians to endure.

If you be Tinubu supporter I sorry for you. Zombies.

My take is that president Tinubu has never been a president until he was sworn in. His inaugural speech comes with the baptism of fire.

He may not yet know the power his word carries at the moment he's delivering the speech just yet. He played to the hands of typical Nigeria profiteering machinations by the subsidy removal.

Has the subsidy paid by the Buhari administration suddenly dried up? So, profiteering of the Marketers come to fore. Are these people deserve to be exonerated in the blame?

The bock stops at the end of the presidency.

BAT already informed you before elections that no matter the protest you do, subsidy will go and it's gone for good.
