In an ideal situation, elections come and go. Once elections end, people focus on governance. Because people understand that bad leadership spears nobody, they become constructive critics, ensuring that the government does the right thing at all times.

Sadly, over the years, I have noticed with dismay that what we practise in Nigeria is totally different. After elections, we have a situation where the "we against them" syndrome becomes prevalent among the peoples of the country.

In one of his several visits to Africa, Former President Barack Obama encouraged Africa to eschew the politics of tribe, religion and hate. Despite that famous speech receiving a thunderous applause, many years later, it appears that tribalism, religious sentiments and party affiliation are increasingly shaping our political views, thereby taking us backwards in Nigeria.

Politics, to my way of thinking, should lead to the growth, development and progress of a people. Regrettably, I have come to understand that Nigerians rarely prioritize their country's interest over political, tribal or party interests. We must be wary of this cancerous practice!

For instance, I was utterly shocked that Nairalanders hailed a judge's decision to fine Former Minister of State for Labour and Employment Festus Keyamo (SAN) for dragging the ICPC to court for not prosecuting Atiku Abubukar, whose former aide released voice notes to prove that he orchestrated and oversaw financial embezzlement in Nigeria.

On the other hand, I want to appeal to APC supporters all over social media to tune down their tribal politics. Yes, this is a disturbing trend that has spiralled over time. While Obidients, I have observed, focus on attacking President Tinubu and the pitfalls of his policy, a lot of these APC people (including the influential ones like FFK and Bayo Onanuga) tend to focus on attacking tribes. Without mincing words, these people are hurting this country.

Furthermore, I don't know if I am the only person who thinks that the rest of the world has no regards for the black man. Unfortunately, being the world's most populous black country, we keep proving them right because self-imposed bad leadership has stalled the development of our country for over six decades. Believe it or not, racial discrimination against people of colour transcends the colour of their skin. If Nigeria was as powerful and influential as the United States, skin colour would never have mattered.

Admittedly, many of us might have erred in the past, including myself. To right our wrongs, if Nigeria means something to us, it's high time we started putting our country's interest first. That's because we are gradually losing this country. The "we against them" disease is doing this country more harm than good. So, it's time to sheath our sword and focus on the progress of the country. You shouldn't criticize destructively because your preferred candidate isn't the person driving the process. It should be country first before candidate.

Thank you and God bless us all....

Well, the we against them issue is prevalent in many advanced democracies, including the USA.

That's an inherent problem with democracy....the inherent 'tribal' nature of the thing (Am not talking about Nigerian style tribalisim, mind you...this is a different animal). People take opposing views, stay with them, and may even fight for them.

And yes, it is the subject of literature and even jokes. (As seen in the late Ronald Reagan's joke about the 'Democratic platform'.)

We are just getting used to it in Nigeria. We spent far too long without democracy....that the idea of people fighting over parties has become a big shock.

No one needs to tell me you are Igbo judging from your bias.

Obidaftis Igbos that were insulting the like of Joke Silva, Seun Kuti Femi Kuti Soyinka n all others should not tone down their hate. This senseless OP claim they focus only on Tinubu insulting all the listed above but APC supporters insult a whole tribe when insulting Obi yet he can not mention a single instance.

This is the sort of blackmail you get from Igbos after they lose out on their evil plans. It is why a group of Igbo orchestrated the first coup in Nigeria to steal power from Tafawa Balewa to give the failure Azikwe, reason why he wasn't killed with leaders of other region.

You talked about we against them a trait Igbo failed politicians use n sell to their foolish gullible supporters.

First it was endless insult on the Hausa Fulani
Now it is endless insult on Tinubu n Yoruba.

Any small thing you will here some fools claim the market they use is different, they are now selling fuel cheaper in the SW.

All sort of foolish comment your mouth should have been knocked of by confirm 2 by 2 for.

My advice is you stop writing all the junks n start cautioning your senseless tribesmen from inciting other Nigerians against them cos you are bound to regret it sooner or later. It was the Hausa Fulani at first now it's the Yoruba when shit hit the fence you will collect.
