Thank God it turns out to be a skit, 'cos if not, then this is 110% wrong.

Even the Nigerian police do not have the powers to arrest anyone for an unpaid debt without a court order / arrest warrant talk less of 2 Palmpay staff and their body builder bouncer.

If I were the guy, I would look for a po bono lawyer to teach palmpay and their illegal goons a lesson in proper corporate behavior.

Palmpay should have gone to court instead of resorting to self help that can result in being sued for defamation and libel.

In civilised countries this is a form of false imprisonment / kidnapping with the culprits facing prosecution.

False imprisonment is a common law offence involving the unlawful and intentional or reckless detention of the victim. An act of false imprisonment may amount in itself to an assault. If a separate assault accompanies the detention this should be reflected in the particulars of the indictment.

False imprisonment or unlawful imprisonment occurs when a person intentionally restricts another person’s movement within any area without legal authority, justification, or the restrained person's permission. Actual physical restraint is not necessary for false imprisonment to occur. A false imprisonment claim may be made based upon private acts, or upon wrongful governmental detention. For detention by the police, proof of false imprisonment provides a basis to obtain a writ of habeas corpus.

Under common law, false imprisonment is both a crime and a tort and if the claimant suffered an 'affront to their dignity', they may be awarded aggravated damages.

These are basic, aggravated and exemplary damages: Basic damages are awarded for the actual time that you were imprisoned or for the wrongful prosecution. Aggravated damages are awarded for any mental distress or injury to feelings caused by the unlawful arrest or detention.
