I remember being tired of seeing this "18+" everywhere like it was something special because I had already become an adult long before I thought of the number '18'.

I left the number '18' three years ago and there are some things I wished I did when I was teenager, this is like a memo to both teenagers and adults — it's not about pússy and díck.

1. I wish I grew up with my parents and siblings:
I see some of these little humans forcefully trying to jump into '18' by all means unnecessary. My little brother even got tired of staying with my mom because he wanted to explore and see other places, which is cool though.

I hate the fact that I had to become an adult before I even turned 18 because of the hard times, my family faced.

If I had a choice to go back and undo some of these tragedies that befell us like losing my dad, I'd do that wholeheartedly.

2. Learn a fúcking skill:
I wished I learnt a skill instead of business that was forced down my throat even though I've been doing business since I was a kid, I still wished I had a 'physical' skill.

When I was 16, I tried to learn programming with the laptop in the bet9ja shop I worked (I often lied about my age back then lipsrsealed ) but I was forced to go into that nwaboi apprenticeship.

3. Make money online.

I remember when I started a comedy group with my friends back when I was 13—15, I did the editing with my Gionee P4. I even created a Facebook page, Instagram and YouTube, my Facebook page had active followers even though I never got to post my videos because my phone got damaged.

I wished I listened to me and stayed away from that nwaboi apprenticeship. Guess what? I created a new Instagram account, searched my old page and found out a famous comedian was actually checking me out back then. I'm not that active on social media but my cousin knew the guy. Imagine if I had continued...

4. Don't take every advice:
Even your parents could be wrong, that doesn't mean I'm saying they're misleading you but they are humans and they are fallible. I do understand you'd be seen as a rebellious kid once you said "NO" but remember nobody's perfect.

When I first said I wasn't going to live with anybody in the name of apprenticeship, all hell let loose and I was depressed. Till date, that was one of my lowest moment in my life but now, my mom and sisters knows that I'm the type of guy that could smell failure from afar.

5. Be yourself and love yourself:
I lied about my age all my life (I still do 😔) because I acted more mature than my age. I hated myself so much for no reason, I blamed for everything that happened even before I was born.

Honestly, it was ridiculously evil. It's hard to let go of that mindset but I'm still growing.

i. Stop trying to please everyone even Jesus never did.
ii. Mind what you tolerate from people because you're actually teaching them how to treat you.

Work on your self-esteem:
Looking back, I remember how I tried to hide my low self-esteem but the truth was — I looked down on myself so much, it felt normal.

Funny enough, I was quite handsome but felt ugly plus the pimples, sexual abuse, masturbation guilt and etcetera made me feel like dirt. I didn't even want nothing to do with relationships, I was so "weird" (I still am ☹️).

Love yourself, man...

7. Focus on your studies
I was intelligent, that's what everyone said but I didn't think so — I feel they didn't understand me even though I always came first till I was done with high school.

Things were just different and quite easy, back in year 1 (JSS1), I finished a test on integrated science within few minutes. The teacher couldn't believe it that she searched me thoroughly ( grin ).

My classmates complained I understood things faster ( angry ) and that was when I started giving that middle finger to education outwardly although I remained committed but I didn't show it. That still didn't stop me from having good grades, teachers complained I wasn't serious but I always came first.

So, no matter what you do, focus on your studies and do not depend on school to teach you everything. I use Google to my advantage although it also corrupted me too but I got exposed to a lot of crazy stuffs. That's why it was easy for my teachers to hold conversations about history, politics and etcetera with a 13—16 years old kid.

8. Relationships

I stayed away from relationships and rejected offers and I can't tell why because I wasn't that "religious". I wouldn't say much on this but use your time wisely, the future depends on you.

Life's too short.

9. Get a college degree:

I wished I had a college degree, I really wish I went to the university. I was barely 16 when I graduated from high school but I wanted the most important part of teenage life in a fúcking apprenticeship and I regret it.

Years later, I found out the school fees of the polytechnic located in that town was very low and I could have sponsored myself even when my mom could (😔). I was very hard-working...

Don't waste your life pleasing others (😢)

10. Be a responsible and good kid
I really was and still am, but that was why I put others first and hated myself.

11. All work and no play makes jack a full boy
Never forget this, don't let them deceive you into becoming a slave to the future. Live in the moment and enjoy every one of it.

12. I wish I had pictures:
Remember I was quite weird? I hated pictures and thought I was ugly with my pointed nose, long eyelashes, moustache and light skin. It was because of that though, I just didn't like photos. I hated my existence for no reason.

13. Don't allow anyone to put pressure on you:
Since I was a kid, they kept reminding me how everyone was looking up to me and how I must not screw things up. It was crazy, believe me. I couldn't think like a normal kid, it made me lie about my age, endured abuse from people etc...

I was lost inside...

Bonus:

14. Just because we learn from mistakes doesn't mean you should make a costly mistake.

15. Set your own goals, if you can get a book to do so— do it.

16. Own a diary, when I look at those write-ups (the ones that survived) I wrote years back; the feeling is heavenly.

17. Stop doubting yourself, build your confidence.

18. Do not allow peer pressure make you do something stupid.

19. Use your common sense.

20. You won't remain 16 forever.

This will remain relevant forever.

By the way, I'm tired of wasting my time in that bakery — I'd rather keep writing my first book and suspend that stress tonight.

Don't know what to do 🤔

The skill set part hit me 🤝📈! Also any teenager that just clicked on this thread should make sure that he have read books like *How to sell to Nigerians * by Akin Alabi *Africa Rise and Shine* by Jim ovia (ceo zenith bank plc.) *Millonaire Fastlane * by mj demarco, I wish the author added this. Have a nice day and make sure you’ve crammed this books by all means before turning 18. Wise is enough for the wise. Believe it or not Nigeria = survival of the fittest. Know this and have peace .📈📈✅
