What is Emotional Exhaustion?



Emotions can simply be defined as feelings that we express as humans. Happiness, Anger, Sadness, Apprehension, etc, are all kinds of emotions.

Exhaustion can be said to be a state of overwhelming mental and physical weariness.

What then is Emotional Exhaustion?

Emotional exhaustion can be defined as a state of being emotionally miserable due to life's challenges and shege.

In simpler terms, emotional exhaustion is that state where you feel so tired, angry, sad, relatively happy, and still restless.

What Are The Common Causes Of Emotional Exhaustion?

• High Expectations

• Setting unrealistic goals.

• Pressure from work, family, or relationship.

• Relocating or starting a new business or job.

• Prolonged Illness.

• Having a baby. (Most first-time mums experience this)

• Working or staying at a place you don't love.

• Financial difficulty (Sapa)

• Loss of a loved one (either breakfast or death)

• Working towards a due date.

Symptoms Of Emotional Exhaustion.

• Constant Headaches

• Difficulty Sleeping

• Restlessness

• Resentment towards your favorite people, food, or stuffs

• Low morale

• Feeling of Hopelessness

• Pessimism: You always see and expect the worst from situations

• Loss of appetite: Some people find it hard to eat anything whenever they are emotionally exhausted


• Increase in appetite: On the contrary, some people like myself get to overeat when emotionally exhausted😂

I can use my last kobo to buy food and damn the consequences and even forget future plans when I'm emotionally exhausted.
Simply put, people like myself vent all their frustration on food when emotionally exhausted.
Thank God for always providing, btw😂😂

• Absent-mindedness: At this state, na make them no carry go where you no know you go dey pray for because you may just suddenly blackout and gets oblivious of happenings around you😂😂

Some weeks back a wholesale client who buys towels sent his boy to bring 5 different colors of our Large size towels. I packed the order and gave it to the boy after confirming the man's payment.
A few mins after, the man called and asked why I gave the boy 5 orange colors of towels instead of mixing them. I argued with the man and told him I gave the boy different colors. He told me to hold on.

He came back himself and showed me what I packed. It was indeed 5 orange colors of towels. I apologized for the stress and he picked his choice of colors. My neighbor likened it to color blindness but that was a complete case of absent-mindedness

How To Eliminate Emotional Exhaustion.

Identity The Trigger Button

One of the best and most practical ways to deal with emotional exhaustion is to identify what triggers your exhaustion.

Could it be that your job is demanding so much that you feel like disappearing?

Is it your marriage?
Is it your child(ren)
Is it the new location?
Is it that insensitive and difficult colleague or boss?
Is it your parent's health?
Is it that ailing child?

Identify what triggers your exhaustion.


Tackle The Trigger

After you've successfully identified what triggers your exhaustion, the next step to take is how to effectively handle that which triggers it.

Before we begin, kindly note that some triggers can't be dealt decisively with.

In fact, they will be the ones to deal with you, show you shege and you will sit still and swallow every bit of the pill they will try to shove down your throat.

Triggers like weaning a child, taking care of ailing parents or child, or even parenting, in general, are some of the triggers you can't run away from.

You just have to find a way to balance your life around these triggers.

For example, if your parents are aged and ill, instead of taking care of your immediate family, working, and still running around to take care of them, you can get someone, a nurse or a helper who can start taking care of them while all you do is send funds, visit and take food there whenever you can.

For a first-time mum, if your mother is alive and healthy, she can be with you for the first 3 months and ration the night vigils or you can even get a nanny who will do the job if you are capable enough.

For general parenting, you can invite the Holy Spirit to help you.


Then, if the trigger is your job, marriage, new location, or insensitive colleague or boss, you should work hard to get rid of that stressor especially if your mental health is getting sabotaged.


Eat healthy

One of the many ways you can effectively curb incessant mental exhaustion is by introducing and opting for healthier options for food. A rich immune system will help you fight off some of the stressors and aid in better sleeping patterns.


Exercise

Physical exercises have a way of taking your mood from 10-100. Aside from the health benefits, it will also help you forget some of the issues trying to steal your joy.

I strongly recommend walking!


Talk It Out

Talking it out should be considered the first option on this list because it works like magic.
Confide in a trusted friend and tell them everything. You go dey alright.

Pray

Ah! If I write everything and forget to include prayers, I have written nothing.

The soothing feeling of peace that encompasses you whenever you chose to tell it to Jesus through prayer can't be compared with anything.

I will always recommend prayer.


Sleep
• Take a break
• Seek therapy
• Be productive
