Thirty years ago, this day, I queued behind the poster of MKO Abiola to exercise my franchise right. I had just turned 18 seven months before that election. Unfortunately, it was annulled by IBB before Humphery Nwosu could announce the result of the most credible election in Nigerian political history through option A4. The riots, uprising and tumult followed. Arthur Nzerebe's Association for Better Nigeria (ABN) did the dirty job for the incumbent military junta. IBB later "step" aside after appointing Earnest Shonekan whose interim national government was toppled by Abacha few months later.

It was an interesting experience to me then cos I was still young, seeing different kind of protests, burn fires and activities that disrupted my going to schools then always made me happy. Of course,I didn’t like going to school cos I was lazy.
Later when I was fully grown and was understanding historical events and how they are affecting the present and intimidating the future, I realised it was a nasty experience.

The hero of our democracy. MKO sacrificed everything for the democracy we are now enjoying. We will never forget his sacrifice for the country.

Kudos also to others who joined him in the struggle for democracy and end to military dictatorship. People like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stood tall in that struggle while folks like Peter Obi were in bed with the demonic Abacha regime making money from the port.

June 12 was very calm and peaceful like any other day. People went to their polling units to cast their votes. I did not vote as I was less tha 18 years during voter registration. There was no movement till after elections as usual. The events that happened after the suspension of announcement of results and the eventual annulment were quite frightening and disturbing. There were protests nationwide, the army was given shoot at site order. Some protesters were shot dead and dead bodies littered in the streets of Lagos. However, the then Minister of Information Late Comrade Uche Chukwumerije said nobody died. There was fuel scarcity as NUPENG and PENGASSAN went on prolonged strikes. Their leaders like Frank Kokori were arrested. We suffered no be small as petrol and kerosene were scarce. Some people started using firewood and saw dust to cook. Many of us from the east travelled home. Lagos became quiet at some point. This is the end of my story.

All I could remember was this photographer cum local politician in my neighborhood that was distributing OBESERE RICE (foreign rice) as it was very scarce then to few selected people, the jingles on radio prior to election, MKO MKO ACTION, ABIOLA ABIOLA PROGRESS. The aftermath suffering when we were looking for sawdust and diesel (cheaper than kerosene) for cooking. Series of protests. Prayer points by pastors on MKO that our lives shouldn't be like his who died in process of fighting to reclaim MANDATE etc

Pascal Bafyau later compromised. He was the NLC president and was one of the people seemed to be leading the struggle. Nigeria problem no be today.

My mother was a secondary school student and my father was a new wig.

They hadn't met yet and I wasn't in the picture.

I was about 15 years old at the time.
Couldn't vote but I followed my dad and mom to the polling booth..
Everything was nice and smooth.. no issues
Until the annulment came over the radio waves..
There was a lot of violence..shops being burnt
A lot of shooting and killing.i personally saw the army shoot a young man on the street of Apapa Road in Ebute Metta for breaking curfew .
Dead bodies littered the streets for days on end.
Most of the igbos in my neighborhood disappeared overnight.. they fled Eastwards to avoid what they felt was the start of a civil war
Everywhere was pensive..
Fear was all over
My parents even mulled crossing the border at Seme heading to Ghana. We have close relatives there at the time .
It wasn't a nice time tho.

it wasnt funny then, i saw our neighbors suffering and cooking with saw dust, as a kid i will steal my parent foodstuffs and pour it for my friends .. my parent hardly notice but our maid caught me grin and when she went to play Arisetv on me, My dad still defended me to my greatest surprise shocked, the fume on my mom's face 🤣🤣🤣 R.i.p dad he is my hero

People don dey follow Nigerian politics for thirty years and till today nothing don change. What a waste of one's life.

The man would have provided nothing to the country. Things would remain as they are today. Thank God the one who tried the same scam this year didn't enter power. Nothing worse than promising heaven and earth only to fail. In another dimension, he was probably elected. Citizens there would forever note his government as the most corrupt to ever see light.
