Also, some of the best athletes globally are from the basketball field.

Basketball originated in 1891 by James Naismith, a Canadian sports tutor. In Springfield Massachusetts basketball was first played in the international young men’s christian association currently known as the Springfield college. For the game, James made use of peach hampers for shooting the goals. The new game naturally created a lot of buzz around it and gradually it became popular across the American continent. This led to the basketball association of America now known as the NBA. Today the national basketball association (NBA) is a globally acclaimed professional league. As the popularity of the game grew further, it was declared as an Olympic sport in 1936.

There are several factors behind the major popularity of basketball. To start with, it is a quicked paced game and quite thrilling to play. It is fundamentally an indoor sport and can be enjoyed throughout the year. It can also be played in driveways and parks. Contrasting to other sports, the appliances utilised in basketball are simple: hoops and a ball. The game is played on a rectangular floor known as a court. The court is split into two parts by a mid-court line. There are two hoops at the end of each sector which are 10 feet tall. Basketball is a team sport with 12 players on both teams with 5 on the court. The players have to shoot the ball in the rival’s hoop to gain points and the team with the higher points at the end wins the match.

Basketball is comparatively less popular in India as Indians are crazy about football and cricket. Although, over the last few years the popularity of the game has gained momentum in India. To escalate its popularity even more the game is highly marketed by the NBA. Furthermore, the NBA are also providing help to India in terms of both infrastructure and training. The association first entered India in 2017 by establishing a basketball school in Mumbai. Further, they went on to introduce the NBA academy in Greater Noida, NCR and multiple other schools in Pune and New Delhi as well. Thanks to the impact of the NBA, basketball is receiving adequate acceptance in India. Now India has the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) which comprises qualified teams of both genders. They heed to the rules and regulations set by the International Basketball Federation. There is no scarcity of talented players even though basketball is an overlooked sport in India. A handful of Indians who were able to mark their names in the sport are Amjyot Singh, Akilan Pari and Satnam Singh. These players have paved the way for the rising generation to accept the sport and form a national team! Indeed there is high hope for the game to expand in India in the years ahead.

As cricket till date remains the most popular sport in India, multiple gaming apps were developed to keep the players absorbed. Consequently, fantasy cricket apps materialised. These games have become highly popular among the sports fans. Since basketball is still a breaking out sport in the country, it can be a mega success in fantasy sports apps as well. Although the online form of the game has been around for a while now it is still relatively new for the Indian audience. Similar to the fantasy cricket game, the gamers can choose the best players, form a team and take part in matches. They can also get a chance to win real cash prizes.
