The second generation of Nigerian politicians are the military junters who forcefully overthrew the civilians. This is the longest era in Nigerian politics. The military ruled Nigeria from 1966 to 1999 with just 6 years of civil rule.
Some of the military Heads of states were Aguiyi Ironsi, Yakubu Gowon, Muhammadu Buhari etc. The politicians in this generation refused to leave, many of them retired from military and came back as civilians.

Third generation

The third generation of Nigerian politicians are those who fought for return of democracy. These set politicians rose in the 90s. Examples are Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, , Ndubisi Kanu, Atiku Abubabar etc
