Shakira has opened up on the sacrifices she made in her former relationship with Gerard Pique, as she continues to be investigated over allegations of tax fraud.

Shakira has made a stunning revelation about her previous relationship with former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

The 46-year-old Colombian popstar ended her 11-year relationship with Pique in June 2022, after it was revealed that the 36-year-old former footballer cheated on her with a lady identified as Clara Chai Marti.

The pair released a joint statement via Shakira’s team that read:

Since the breakup, Gerard Pique has been dating 23-year-old student Clara Chia Marti and the couple hasn’t been shy about showing off their love.

Shakira on the other hand has been linked to a number of famous celebrities including Lewis Hamilton and Tom Cruise as the mother of two is currently settling to life in Miami.

Shakira is still in the crosshairs of the law for an alleged tax fraud of €14.5 million.

According to a report from Dario AS, Shakira’s statements in the tax fraud case have been growing over the years, and 'El País' has had access to them.

The Colombian singer, who has been battling the Court case since 2019, argues that she did not live in Spain in a stable way until 2015, so she could not treat it as a tax residence.

When asked about the countries with which she had had ties to, she stated that Spain is not on this list.

Meanwhile, she cited the United States as, "my springboard to the rest of the world and is my business center", Colombia, where she was born and where most of her family lives, and Bahamas: "I needed a place to find the person again and separate the public figure.

Shakira opens up on how Pique’s relationship affected her movements in her career

According to the report, Shakira revealed that he did not live in the Bahamas, due to her career demands, as well as the arrival of Gerard Piqué in her life.

The Colombian singer is accused of settling in Barcelona, and spending up to 183 days, long enough to be considered a tax resident.

The report reveals that Shakira admits she began spending time with Pique in Spain as their relationship was they were taking the next steps in their relationship

"I was delighted with him. I remember flying from Marrakech to Croatia. We were flying over Barcelona and I asked the pilot of the plane if I could land briefly just to give Gerard a kiss.” she said.

Shakira is also said to have spoken positively about her ex-boyfriend, Pique, in her statement.

"In 2011, when I started dating him, we hardly saw each other. He is 23 years old, ten years younger than me.

“Footballer, handsome, with Playboy fame... He was crazy at the time. Right now he's a dude, but back then he was crazy and had no guarantee that things were going to go ahead or that we were going to start a family.

“I never imagined that I would live in this country because of that boy with a beard who was incredible, but well, no more." she said.

However, she also revealed that she could compromise her career to live in Barcelona on the basis of her relationship with Pique.

"How could I sacrifice everything for a boy I was meeting, there assaulting the cradle. Our relationship was very turbulent, he was a Dragon Khan, because our professional lives did not combine, it was like collecting water and oil. I was a globetrotter and he had to stick to a schedule." she said.

Shakira also admitted the only link she had in Spain was Pique while revealing that she has bought houses in various places like Uruguay, New York, Miami, Barranquilla, and Nassau.

The 46-year-old musician also maintains that those purchases are not necessarily a commitment for her, as she also tends to rent houses during her tours.
