The Pope is a title (an office), not an individual. Heck, even I can't even immediately remember the full name of the current Pope! Let alone one village woman in Okitipupa or Kafanchan.

Pope John Paul II was quite popular but even then... Michael Jackson still has to be the most well known human ever.

Personally, I'd rate Michael Jackson and Adolf Hitler as the top two most well known in history, adjusting for different eras and epochs.

How many people know him or about him?

Go to the market or street, ask 100 market women or adult illiterates about Adolf Hitler, it will take more than a miracle to come across one that know about him.

Ask same people if they know Michael Jackson, I can assure you, over 80 of them will respond in the affirmative.

Michael Jackson is a household name and Adolf Hitler doesn't come close.

Even Jay Jay Okocha is more popular than Adolf Hitler.

Even my 10 year old sis knows Michael Jackson and his songs and I know it's not through me or my siblings because we don't even listen to him. This is an 80s musician o.

It is quite impossible for the whole world to know someone because there are many factors including generations and civilization that can determine that.

To me, 90% of world population might know Ronaldo and Messi.
