Hmmm, it's a tough one though, but if I am the man that is the end of the marriage, how can my wife slap my mother because of food.

The manchi is a confirm alpha, you never enter my house you don dey slap my owm mother that means you will do more to my siblings and relations in time to come, the red flag is too big to ignore. If it was her father i believe the husband would have not behave that way. If you want marry that woman then be ready to face consequences. If you have this type as a step mom only depression sef go kill you if you are not emotiomally strong.

I in the first place won't marry such a lady.

Slapping your mother-in-law in a public gathering is the most disgraceful act, not to the mother-in-law only but to you the son.

She's got no iota of respect for you as the husband.

Since the mother-in-law was the one who went to take the food herself, you have no right to stop her.

Honestly, children of nowadays are just unbelievable. angry

Following the sequence of events, the MIL should not have slapped her in public. Since she (the MIL) invited her own guests to the event, she bears the responsibility for their refreshments, not the bride.

It's the bride's wedding, and she should be accorded maximum respect. This is not to justify the bride´s retaliatory slap, but I am approaching the issue from the root curse. The MIL feels genuinely offended, while she was the cause of this mess.

Seems like being older/MIL has immune her from being the aggressor. If the MIL has behaved maturely, things won't have escalated badly. I wonder what sort of MIL wants to be a record holder of slapping her son's wife on her wedding day.

The idea of respecting your inlaw/elders in Nigeria have been so overstretched, and overexploited, that you can trample on a younger person's right, disrespect them, and still retain the moral ground to be their judge, feel offended, and deserving of appeasement.

I can understand if the groom is seeking a divorce, after all, the bride should have exercised restraint and not slapped his mum, I get it. But he should also let his mum knows that her actions were very bad, and she should not have slapped the bride.

Whatever.

God bless you for your unsentimental analysis. Firstly, it was a grave insult for the MIL to even go and ask for the food reserved for the bride's parents to entertain her own late comer guests. It means she had no respect for the bride and her family. Secondly, it was very wrong and rude for the MIL to still want go ahead and dish the food after the bride said no. Thirdly, the MIL completely lost it and went too far by slapping the bride on her wedding day. Ahh! Na wa oh. The bride is not a slave na. The bride ought not to have even retaliated instead, she should have just walked away and be the one suing for divorce. That family don't deserve her. God forbid bad thing.
