On the 21st of June 2023, around the hours of 5: 30 pm, I was privately tutoring a kid at his residence when I received a WhatsApp message from a very trustworthy colleague of mine. The message given was a plea for urgent financial assistance and the amount was 20K. According to the sender, he had tried sending the aforementioned amount of money to someone but it wasn't going through and it needed to do for it was a matter of urgency. He then promised to pay it back on the morning of the following day. Since it was a highly respected colleague who had had my back (finance-wise) a good number of times and I'd had his too (just a couple of times tho), I impulsively sent the money to the account details provided; 1710346183, Access Bank, Adebayo Ojo, without first calling my colleague to confirm the details of the message. It was one minute later when I received another message requesting money again that I realised I had been scammed.

I am a teacher at a private school that has owing workers' salaries for a tradition. At the time of writing this piece, I'm being owed my May salary and sadly the 20K I sent to the scammer was the little savings I had for my rent which becomes due in October.

I acknowledge my foolishness, hence my sharing this with you so you don't fall victim, as I did.
