Asari affirmed that when the Kalabari King saw how tall, strong, and agile his male ancestor was, he requested that a message be sent to his parents intimating them that he wanted Asari Dokubo's male ancestor who passed on in the 1820s to stay in the palace with him and that was how that Abam young man became an Ijaw man through naturalization in an Ijaw environment.
