I'm not going to say what hasn't already been said.

Advice I can give your friend is to continue his work. Lagos is it rent, cost of living, feeding, electricity, transport costs? In fact there is a big crisis coming.

I am currently in Lagos and to find a self-contain cubicle in Yaba or Central areas will set you back nothing less than 600k-800k. Imagine salary is 150k, what is left?

No saving at the end of the year only survival. And to make it worse its a private job that can lay you off at any time? Omo think it well oooo.

My advice is to to upskill and improve his network, that way you'll be able to earn more and live in a considerably affordable environment.

Hello, A friend of mine wants to relocate to Lagos for better job opportunities. He is making efforts to resign from his current job and move to Lagos. One of his friends have agreed to give him accomodations in surulere pending when he gets a job...
He has Bsc in Economics and three years experience in sales in a major FMCG although it is contract...
He is changing job because of he is tired of the contract job and wants to look for direct employment in Lagos...
He is active in LinkedIn and other platforms...
Please what is your advice for him and if you have any possible offers,Please drop.
Thanks...
He can apply from his location. When the job is sure, he can resign and relocate to Lagos.

As the elders dey talk: " You don't throw away your old shoes until you have a new one"

Let him minimize his risk

Tell your friend (though I believe you are the one) that life in Lagos is different from
what he has been watching in Nollywood.

You see that thing that one boy in Nollywood will carry his bag and come to Lagos, after 2 years, he will go home with the latest SUV,
no dey for real life.

Your friend should better stay where he is and apply for jobs in Lagos. He should not relocate till he secures a job here.

You are from Osun state, how is it your pain? Nigeria belongs to Nigerians, take it or leave it.

Osun and Lagos are in the same region and everywhere is home to a Yoruba man anywhere there.
Migrants are not wanted.
Tell him to go to anambra where obi developed.
Last time I checked, we're all Nigerians and can reside anywhere.
Whoever doesn't like it should support secession.

I got a job in Lagos with just a bit more in salary but when i deducted the extra expenses to be incurred in Lagos with regards to Feeding, transport and accommodation, it amounted to about 30% decrease in the new salary. Omor, i declined.

I moved to Lagos last month from Gombe, I entered on a Friday and by the next week Friday I had an interview in a place I've been working on days before I came. By another next week Friday I got the Job.

Now by next week Friday I am expecting my first salary which is close to 100k.

I live with a friend in ikoyi and work in victoria island near low school, I trek to and fro except if I am late or it's raining I will have to spend 400 naira to go but upon coming back I trek it. 1hour plus is enough for me to trek .

I studied computer science and I am deeply into Machine learning, data science and artificial intelligence. But in this job, I am called an education Consultant which I am just in sales.

I am leaving here in August to start internship in Yaba for the next 6 months under AI of which they will only give me stipends for transportation and data but I want to hustle really hard to get my own place at Yaba or Surulere, I also want to enroll in msc.

It's crazy here, survival is not easy, I can not wait to collect my first salary and buy gas and food stuffs to start cooking. As I am I need like x3 of my salary to be alright for this July. I need to be creative and hustle more it has not been easy survival is by God's grace but we thank God for everything

It is like you setup this Lagos. Please can I dm you? I need some clarification from you.

LeoThaGreat:
Lagos is the land of corporate job opportunities he won't regret it if he comes to Lagos.

BUT, when he arrives, so he won't be a financial burden to his friend, he will need to first grab any reasonable employment that can help him keep body and soul together (most likely Customer Service jobs contract or not) while he search for a better job opportunities. If he chooses to be dependent on his friend, he's bound to be surprised in the wrong way.

He should aim at jobs within Surulere, Yaba, Ikeja, Maryland, etc but no where beyond Ikoyi and Obalende on the Island. He will quickly get stressed out if he accepts jobs in V.I, Lekki and Ajah, but if the pay is worth it, he shouldn't go beyond V.I.

He should understand that Lagos doesn't sleep, so he might have to leave home 5:30am if his job location is far.

While staying with his friend, he should learn budgeting and stick to it.
Let's say he's working at Yaba and living in Surulere, his transportation expense is 800naira, and he buys food of 600, that's 1,500 daily, so he can budget 2k as his daily expense. Alternatively, if he and the friend can corporate, they can be contributing money to cook and take food to work, so he won't spend as much as 600naira to buy food outside.

In his budget, he should try to save let's say about 17k - 20k monthly so he can rent his own apartment. I mean a room in a face me I face you, for about 6k - 8k monthly, with total package of 184 - 220k (with agreement and commission). If he's seeking comfort, he will need to have at least 500k for total package of a room self contained (250k rent per annum

The cheaper the rent, the more ratchet the apartment.

Besides, we're currently in the rainy season, so you can get to see what the streets will look like when it rains.

Better environment = higher rent
