Eid-el Kabir- What Are We Celebrating? by Myer(m): 6:35am On Jun 29, 2023
Eid-El Kabir to our Muslim friends.
Happy Holidays to us all.

It's always a blessing to be alive to celebrate significant days of the year. It is a testament of God's Goodness and God's Faithfulness and a Charge for us to Do Better, to demonstrate our sincere gratitude and appreciation as our acts of reciprocation.

Yoruba adage says "Eni to ba monu ro, yi o mope da."
Which loosely translates "Who ever has insight will be grateful."

First what are we celebrating?
What is Eid-El Kabir?

It is a Festival in commemoration of the Day God instructed Father Abraham (Ibrahim) to Sacririce his only beloved son- the son he had waited all his life to get. Yet as painful as it was, he obeyed.
God seeing his Faith and Obedience provided a ram in the stead of his son. And an everlasting covenant was sealed.
He became the Father of Many Nations whom we are still celebrating 4000 years after and will continue to celebrate.

What Are The Lessons
1. Abraham was from an idolatrous home. But God called him out and he heard God and left everything behind. He had no clear idea of his destination but he followed.

2. He walked with God and grew to Trust God with every instruction and experience.

3. God Promised to make him the Father of Many Nations and He believed even when it seemed impossible and his wife Sarah was old.

4. Abraham was always watching as he prayed. He recognised his angelic visitations and encounters and quickly invited them for hospitality. These angels assured him of God's Promise.

5. Unfortunately Sarah out of love and frustration tempted Abraham and got him to marry her maidservant Hagar. Who conceived and gave birth to Ishmael (Ismaila). Ishmael would go on to be the progenitor of Islam.

6. At the set time, Sarah too conceived and gave birth to the promised child- Isaac, the progenitor of Christ.

7. Perhaps out of pride and jealousy, Sarah would eventually force Abraham to chase Hagar and her son Ishmael packing. Hagar cried to God in the wilderness and God out of His Mercy and loving-kindness saved her and her child and pronounced a blessing on them.

8. God actually waited years till when Abraham had invested so much in his children, before he instructed Abraham to sacrifice his beloved son.
How painful and costly a sacrifice to demand?
What a Test of Faith!

9. Abraham however still obeyed. And God provided the ram instead. And honoured His sacrifice by establishing an everlasting covenant with him.

10. Both Ishmael and Isaac are sons of Father Abraham. God blessed both of them. Muslims and Christians disagree over which of the sons is the promised child who was offered to be sacrificed.

11. But the moral of the story is simple- Have Faith in God and learn to hear Him for yourself.
Walk with God and Obey His instructions.
God honours our Sacrifices- especially painful sacrifices.
Muslims and Christians should be brothers.
The Quran actually teaches Muslims to learn Godliness from true Christians.

12. Abraham and Sarah were called barren even when they served God, because there was no child to show that they served a living God.
Abraham trusted God for a child but God made him the Father of Nations whom we are still celebrating over 4000 years after. God's Way and God's Time is the Best.

May God help us to have Faith and help our unbelief. May God increase our Faith and Help us Build our Faith in Him through Obedience and Personal Convictions.
May God honour our Sacrifices even beyond our expectations in Jesus name.

Heb.11.6 - But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

When your beliefs contradicts that of the other person next to you both of you aren't brothers but neighbours even if such a person is your blood relation as long as your beliefs contradicts each other you're not brothers but neighbours! ~ Jesus of Nazareth {Matthew 12:46-50}

Where most people got it wrong is the love we must have towards our neighbours {Matthew 22-39} which is different from the love we must have towards our brothers in faith! John 13:34-35

According to Jesus of Nazareth the rules of our religion may differ from that of another faith so we must consider such a person as well meaning neighbour who is ignorant of the rules of our own faith and love him the same way we would want to be loved but when it comes to the person having the same religious beliefs as we do our love for such a person person must be exactly the same way Jesus loves us (ready to surrender his life for us) when it's necessary! John 15:12-13

So Christians and Muslims can't be brothers in faith they can only be neighbours loving each other as themselves! Mark 12:31 smiley

How did Jesus Christ ask us to Love our neighbours?

Luke.10.29-37 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
Then Jesus answered and said: "A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.
So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, "Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.'

So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?"
And he said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

The simple answer to the question is that you should do to others as you would like for them to do to you. It is completely different from any of that described in your OP where you attempt to cast the God of Abraham as being the same entity as the Allah of the Muslims.. undecided

Unless you realise Jesus Christ did not establish a religion, you will not get it.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam are simply the names people/leaders named their doctrine made out of their own encounter.

Which is why within Christianity there are mini-religions we call denominations.

Jesus came to show us the Way, the Truth and the Life of God through Faith, Love and Obedience.

Exactly!

Your neighbour is anyone you see no matter where he or she comes from so as human we must love people anywhere we see them and think of their good but brother is the person with whom we share the same line of thought! John 17:22

So a Muslim who doesn't believe that Jesus is Christ son of the living God can't be a brother to a Christian, they're both neighbours that means the Christian must love the Muslim just as he wish to be loved as taught by Christ Jesus! Matthew 7:12

The only thing that should differentiate a follower of Christ or "Christian" from others is the way of life, living in love- bearing the fruit and gifts of the Spirit and passion for God's Kingdom.

Exactly. So we need to understand that it is religion, race, class etc that have become barrier between us.

With understanding we will learn to love one another.

The only difference is according to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
And who we prioritise. We are advised/encouraged/instructed to start our charity at home first.

Gal.6.10 - Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

According to Jesus of Nazareth LOVE is the identifying mark among true believers {John 13:34-35} nothing separates them no matter what happens even blood relations, race, skin colour, class or language can't be used to influence them against themselves, politicians can't use anything to make them fight one another because the love of Christ surpasses anything else among them. That's what Jesus meant by BROTHERS! Matthew 12:46-50

But neighbours are people we see all around us so Jesus Christ we as Christians must love all other people we see and wish them well just as we wish for ourselves {Mark 12:31 compare to Matthew 7:12} but since they're not related to us in the faith we can't love them the same way we love our brothers in Christ! Galatians 6:10

So according to the law of Christ we must love equally all the people we see around us but as for fellow believers we must be prepared to die for one another if necessary just as Christ did for his disciples! John 15:12-13

That's the difference!

Jesus Christ condemned religion beginning with Judaism proclaiming it is antiGod and of lies -- doctrines and traditions of men --- so what exactly does it matter the reason for denominations? undecided

Again, Jesus Christ sent you to obeying His teachings and commandments which includes doing to others as you would like for them to do to you so what has that to do with claiming the Father is the same entity as Allah of the Muslims? undecided

Wel said.

But if you can realise that the same way Christians have built a religion out of The Way of Life is the way Muslims have built a religion out of the Way too.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam all have Jesus (Yeshua, Yisa) in common, do you still not see it yet?

Everyone simply needs to come in contact with the revelation of Jesus Christ, whether they came through Judaism or Christianity or Islam.

Do you think all Christians have encountered the revelation of Jesus Christ?
It is by ones Fruit that you know who has truly encountered Jesus Christ.
