SYNW MOURNS THE PASSING OF RENOWNED AUTHOR AND PUBLISHER, AGBO AREO

The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) expresses profound sadness over the demise of the distinguished Nigerian author and publisher, Mr. Agbo Areo, who peacefully passed away at the age of 83.

The news of his passing has left the literary community in deep mourning.

In an official statement released by Wole Adedoyin, President of the SYNW, the society pays tribute to Agbo Areo's remarkable contributions to the literary landscape in Nigeria.

Areo's impact as an editor and writer was profound, influencing and inspiring generations of readers and writers alike.

Agbo Areo's remarkable career included notable accomplishments, one of which was the creation of the renowned Pacesetter Novels.

Published by Macmillan, this iconic series encompasses an impressive collection of 130 works of popular fiction by esteemed African authors.

It is with great pride that the SYNW acknowledges that the first book in this series, "Director!", was authored by the late Agbo Areo himself.

Beyond the Pacesetter Novels, Agbo Areo penned several other exceptional literary works that captivated audiences far and wide.

His books, including "The Hopeful Lovers," "Mother's Choice," and the Yoruba title "Ogbon Lo Gba," showcased his versatility and deep understanding of human emotions and societal dynamics.

Areo's commitment to literature extended beyond his own writing.

As an editor, he played a crucial role in nurturing and promoting the works of emerging Nigerian writers, offering them valuable guidance and support.

His passion for the written word was evident in his efforts to uplift the literary community and provide a platform for aspiring authors to showcase their talents.

The SYNW recognizes Agbo Areo's legacy as a visionary and trailblazer, who tirelessly championed Nigerian literature both at home and abroad. His dedication to fostering a vibrant literary culture will continue to inspire future generations of writers to push boundaries and tell authentic African stories.

"We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Agbo Areo during this difficult time. May his soul find eternal rest, and may his indelible contributions to the literary world be forever cherished."
