The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has condemned the disturbing incident where a police team ran a vehicle over a citizen on Thursday June 29, 2023 at Ekpoma, Edo State.

He directed the erring policemen, who had been in detention in Edo State, to report to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Monday for further action.

A statement on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi added that “Members of the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, are implored to remain calm as the present leadership of the NPF will not condone such an act of unprofessionalism and illegality”.

SaharaReporters earlier on Friday reported that Adejobi, who expressed his disbelief at the incident, said the force must immediately take action. He said he had spoken to the state police commissioner about it.

In the disturbing video, a man in handcuffs was seen being crushed by some police officers in a minibus in Ekpoma, Edo state.

The video shows the victim lying on the floor in front of the patrol car. Residents of the area were talking to police when suddenly, one of them who was driving the car, moved it forward and crushed the victim, with one of the tires rolling over the helpless man. He later stopped the vehicle as residents repeatedly yelled that the victim was under the car.

“Nigerian police @police is extremely heartless. See how they knocked down this young man, and later crushed him. He is currently at Irrua Specialist hospital in Edo state, battling with his life,” @PIDOMNIGERIA captioned the video.

Commenting on this, Adejobi said he could not believe that a normal person would crush a fellow human with a vehicle let alone a law enforcement officer.

He had said, “This is unpolice. I dont think a normal human being can do this. To crush a man with a car? This is unbelievable. I have personally contacted the CP Edo on this. We need to take urgent action on the matter. It's strange to me as a person.”

That End Sars attack on policemen didn't teach the bad eggs any lesson atal.. when it's people of questionable character they pack into police and give uniform courtesy of godfathers.
I just hope it won't get to a point where citizens will start laying ambush for men in police uniforms.

If this is not initial gra gra, the Acting IGP will direct that police administrative bail is truly free, and any police station across the country where it is reported that police extorted bail fee, all the officers of that police station will be sacked and fully prosecuted.

The sanctity of human life and human freedom must never be compromised by any police officer. The reckless mass arrests of citizens to extort bail must become a thing of the past.

The Nigerian Police force must be totally professional and not just the force public relations officers.

These are the actions I want to see as a Nigerian Patriot.

It does not cost money to 'force' the Nigeria Police Force to behave like civilised and professional human beings before this year is over.

If the Tinubu administration cannot reform the Police Force by the end of this year using a firm approach of forceful reorientation and prompt punitive action for every police infringement of human rights, then renewed hope would have been a waste of hope on a doomed outcome.

Regardless of the economic position of the country, it only takes willpower and shear brute force to effect a change that does not overtly depend on increased funding, within a stubborn sample population of humans.

Extortion in the Government offices and Airports can also be tackled before this year is over, if the government is serious.

Sack as many as possible and ensure you criminally prosecute them to ensure they are totally crippled from negatively impacting any public or private enterprise in the future.

For as many are sacked, more jobs would be created for those who are not already corrupted by the system. In fact, many jobs would open up as I expect many to be sacked.

This plan does not cost money, but it will cost dedication.

Normally, that day will never come.

I've witness protest in a foreign country and it was brutal, the government came out and appeal to the citizens and asked to get back to them after a committee was set to review the event.

It was reviewed and the people's decision was obeyed. But in Nigeria, the people would be lied to and the matter will go under the carpet. If my mistake a police officer is attacked, then the aim of the protest is defeated already.

Scrapping the Nigeria Police Force is not too drastic an action to cure the cancer.

If it can be done successfully without introducing martial law or military elements to temporarily hold the Fort, then it is a welcomed idea while a replacement civil force is being structured to take over permanently.

I have never been an advocate of using soft hands to handle a matter that needs iron hands.

The issue of the nuisance posed by the Nigerian Police to the civil populace, requires very tough iron hands approach.

On the other hand, I have never worried too much about the nuisance posed by military personnel within the civilian population, because that matter can be resolved within 1 week, by a government that accepts there is a problem that needs resolution.
