Does Anyone Have An Idea Of How Andela Really Started? by Bloomsbury(m): 4:53pm On Jul 03, 2023
Hi devs in the house, I will like to read a case study of how Andela started from the ground up.

I want to build Andela for Virtual assistant in Nigeria.

Something similar to Andela but for Virtual assistant.

Typically we source virtual assistant jobs from client overseas and outsource the job to our network of remote virtual Assistants.

If anyone here have an idea on how Andela built itself, sourced for their engineers and recruited them would really help in what I want to build.

Does anyone know what software they used to manage their teams?

Any tips and suggestions would be appreciated.

Al I need is just virtual Assistants who are comfortable working in USA time zone. You must be comfortable showing your face on camera, You must have your own laptop/desktop. Have a reliable source for electricity and internet connection.

All VAs will work for only 20 hours per month.

Nice initiative.

I believe they started as coding Bootcamp then moved to offering companies their graduates which they had confidence...

Thanks. I think I will implement this strategy

Firstly, a bootcamp for Virtual assistant.

Pay nothing until you graduate

Then we will get VA jobs for our graduate and then outsource it to our graduate while deducting our bootcamp fees from their monthly salary.

What do you think if this?

I believe this is the best path for me to get good and qualified Virtual assistants for my Tech Startup

Yes that's great

Also you'll get unlimited supply of people to carry out the first experiments due to no job in Nigeria.

Only thing you need to worry about to see if your plans will yield or workout is finance and how you'd get the Jobs for your unlimited poll of graduates.

I believe you'd get unlimited poll of graduates.

depending on the difficulty and quality of the bootcamp.

Thanks for your input. Really appreciate.

I will run the bootcamp in a cohort of 10 students per batch.

This way what I learnt from one batch can be implemented in the other batch.

I have no issues with getting jobs for my graduate. I've been networking with potential clients.

I have been building a newsletter with over 11K subscribers who are executives, founders and top management positions who can become my potential recurring customers.

I don't plan on raising money to build this...so like you said my only issues will be finance for the main time.

And another problem that I might have is when some of my VA who might later leave the company and try to take my clients with them.

I will have to come up with a solution to that.

If you have any more tips and suggestions...I would really appreciate.

You're right.

People are greedy selfish and sometimes ungrateful... but that's how the world is.

I believe what will make your clients stick with your company and only work with VAs your company recommends or recruit is based on the quality of your service and legal agreements you have with your VAs.

I believe your company should is the brand.

When a foreign client is getting a service from one of your VAs they're
Doing so based on recommendations from your company.... Also you should focus greatly on offering quality service and your client will stick with you no matter what

I remember back then (2018), one of my guys (he lives in the US) came to Nigeria. He was part of Andela. Too bad I was more interested in crypto then. I think he was part of those that established the training center in Lagos.

I don't know about how they run internally, but from what I remember, it went like:

1. Talent Sourcing and Recruitment
2. Training and Development of recruits
3. Team Management and COLLABORATION

Then, very importantly, they had this wonderful "Andela culture" that kept them together as a team.

They had a clear vision which was to unlock the potential of AFRICAN TALENT and providing access to high-quality software engineering opportunities.

The funny thing is that I've been a programmer for a very long time (I've been coding for almost 10 years now, lol) even though I'm currently in medical school.

Honestly, I'm interested in this your Virtual Assistant Jobs stuff. You can reach out to me on: 4bpm34qk4@mozmail.com

Thanks!

Coding is a skill, it means you will be a powerful VA, because of these platform people VA for, some have some API to automate some tasks.

I definitely agree with you.
To be honest am scared of employing Nigeria VAs. But I might employ a strategy of the company only dealing with the client. The VAs might not get to meet the client one one one only get to work on request.

Am very much interested in you joining my tech Startup. Please send me a mail to Dennis@hustlegazette.com.

If very rare to see people like you who have colleagues who built startups.

For me this is how am building

1. I've been building it as a Tech newsletter. Currently have over 11K subscribers majority are Exec, CEOs and Entrepreneurs.
Majority of our revenue will be from our newsletter not even the VA service

2. Our VA is a productized service. Clients pay monthly subscription $$$$$ to hire our VA service

3. A VA bootcamp to train new potential employees

Actually each of our clients will be working with various VA at the same time.

I want to build my Tech Startup to be more of 80% a newsletter like The Hustle and the like of Morning Brew.

So if you're a content writer with a bit of IT support specialist experience, you're a good fit for my company
