3:04 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall surely not die:

3:05 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

3:06 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.

3:07 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew they were naked, and they sewed fig trees together, and made themselves aprons.

3:08 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

3:09 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.

3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

3:12 And the man said, The woman thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

3:13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

3:14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel

3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake, in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

3:22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever

I am sure you know that the above is Gen. 3: 4-21, quoted verbatim, except for the emphasis which is mine. ls it fair to punish the serpent for saying the truth? God did not even ask the serpent for its own side. He just pronounced guilty verdict. At least, He asked both Adam and Eve. God did confirm the truth when he said his statement in vs. 22. Let us be objective: Why should God punish the serpent for saying the truth. They died not because they eat the fruit. Even if they have not eaten the fruit, they would still have died. What do u think?

Misterman kindly clarify these points please:

3:04 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall surely not die:

1. did the serpent speak unto the woman in Hebrew?

3:14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

2. was the serpent walking upright before the lord god cursed it?

I don't know if he spoke in Hebrew. Really, I don't know why the question. I have just posted a related thread (I had prepared it b4 I even read this).  I think the title of the thread is Death entered thru sin. Really?

2. was the serpent walking upright before the lord god cursed it?

I wasn't there so I don't know if it was walking upright. However, since God cursed it that it would be crawling, one can deduce that it was not crawling before then. Crawling is really no big deal. MMillipedeand centipede do that. Remember that God said that the serpent will eat dust. I was taught in O Level Biology that Serpents are carnivorous animals. Serpents DO NOT eat dust

Over the years man have being blaming woman over this issue.the only person that was economical with the truth is Adam, and this is still happening.man will always look for whom to blame for his failure. As for the serpent,it made itself to be used by arch enemy, satan.Man did not die physically but died a spiritual death, thereby loosing fellowship with God.
Christ came to redeem man from sin,there by renewing mans fellowship with GOD and for you to enjoy this fellowship, give your life to Christ[/color]

fair enough that you dont know if the serpent spoke in hebrew, why the question is that you posted that the serpent said unto the woman, maybe the serpent spoke to her in spanish or french grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

crawling is really a big deal, so you deduced that the serpent was walking upright before god cursed it,

it is good that biology taught you that serpent are carnivorous animals and DO NOT EAT DUST
therefore this verse is otiose and impractical, "And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:"

if you dont believe in the verses literally that is fine

I want u to understand one thing,God did not say the serpent will exactly feed on dust,and we all know that the serpent always stick out its tongue therefore using it to gather dust,sand etc into its mouth thereby feeding on them.

This is what is in my bible: ', and dust shalt thou eat ALL (emphasis mine) the days of thy life.

If that is correct, then goats, sheep etc are also eating dust
