A little about my background. I was raised as a religious Christian and made to read the Bible from start to end continuously on a yearly basis. This deep studying exposed me to seeing the many inconsistencies in the Bible and question my beliefs.

I also spent some time studying some other religious texts from Islam(English versions of Quran and haddiths), Buddhism and some Hinduism, before accepting Atheism as what works for me.

My utmost desire is to raise my children as straight up Atheists, no need wasting thing on fake concepts like religions, but at same time with good morals(logical, truthful, kind, trustworthy, and a couple of good societal values).

But I've been wondering whether it's ideal to expose them to religious texts, so they can easily see the fallacies of religions or to completely ignore religious texts and focus on scientific reasoning and logic?

Anyone in same boat?

Imagine. What you first need to do is to check yourself properly because being an atheist is not normal

You chose to perish in hell, as if that's not enough, you still want to drag your children along with you. That's wickedness from the pit of hell.

Raising them as 2SLGTBQIA+ would have been a better bet.
You got no job to your name, trying to help you since you really do not know what the fuck__ you doing, or you really got nothing doing.

You want to brainwash your kids because you too were brainwashed as a child? undecided

Why not teach them how to logically reason all things and then let them decide for themselves what they will believe or not?, undecided

U atheists dont have guide books...u for give ur children make them read to make them hate christians and the idea of God...

Unfortunately for u ..many of what u call morals are deeply rooted in religious laws/text...u dont have moral book either....

U cant totally run from religion in nigeria...ur kids will be taught in schools right from kindergarten ...they will come home singing lullabies about Jesus...it will interest them..... enforcing no God values on them as a kids will just make them weird among friends in nigeria....children are not adults that can form i dont care..

My nephew plays piano, base guitar and drums..all he developed from church and he has forged his interest in music... Dont deprive ur children some basic social interaction and opportunities especially in nigeria where there are little or none just because u dont belive in God....over a non existent God...u atheist worry to much ....

Nigga ...You found ur way....ur children will find theirs no matter where they start from....

I'm not trying to brainwash them. Just trying to make things less complicated for them since I've passed that road before myself.

You don't necessarily have to pass through a blocked road yourself to know it leads no where.

Allow them to follow the faith of their mum for now, while you keep doing your thing. When they grow up a little, they will keep asking why you don't attend any religion gathering, that is when you tell them your own perspectives about life.

Don't force anything on them, they have their lives to live independently of your thought. Just teach them moral lessons, if they follow your path fine, if not fine. Life is too short than focusing on frivolities.

What do you mean brainwash? How's that different from telling the kid to believe a God they'd never see or hear? Is teaching the kid to ask questions brainwashing?

avoid marrying a Christian woman. Muslims who marry Christian women certainly loose the Islamic strong hold on the children. Start from there!

Thank you but I don't want Islamic or any other religious stronghold on them .

I want them to be good adults but they shouldn't try to belong to any religion.

They can choose to tho but I will make them see why it makes no sense to do so.

Try to reason carefully before responding. Whether you are indoctrinating the kids into believing in a God or you are forcing them into believing there is none, you are doing exactly the same thing which is brainwashing them into thinking the way you do. undecided

It's brainwashing when you push your own views as the only possible option there can be for your kids. The best way is to teach them how to properly reason all things --- logically---, present them with your own ideas as evidence for your own choice in the matter and let them decide for themselves whether they find it agreeable or not all on their own. undecided

2. This reasoning is why Africa is where it is today. Never declare a road impassable just because you and others such as yourself were not able to find a way through it. undecided

No. If i say there is no God, I'd be right because, indeed, there's none. No single human can prove it.

Forcing a child to "believe" is brainwashing. If there is no cup on the table and i teach the child that there is no Cup, is that brainwashing?

Do mind me, i meant, even in muslim +Christian marriages, the Christian mother influences the kids the most.

Unless, your kids are the inquisitive kind, else, wify will snatch all of them to church. 😂
at d end of the day, because u don't want to b left at home, you'd follow them to church. 😂😂

Most Atheist come from over religious backwards..

Too much of everything is bad...

Bringing you child up without the other influence if religion is very good.

1. Wrong, you are not right. Rather, you conclude based on the much you have exposed yourself to that there is no God. You have no definitive truth for the claim you hold to. And just because no human has been able to prove a thing does not mean it does not exist. Unless you want to pretend also that you have met up with every last human that will ever be born into this space as well.. undecided

2. Let the child see for his ownself that there is indeed no cup on the table. Do not force your view on said child. Children come equipped with a brain of their own so they can reason most everything out. Best you can do is teach them how to reason everything properly, acquaint them with your views and leave them to make up their own mind as far as what it is they will believe at the end of the day. undecided

you have to allow them explore religion by making them know what it entails, as they are studying religion it makes it easier for you talk them against being religious based on logic.
If they don't understand religion, they might end up falling for it someday.
Train them to always question everything including what they have learnt from religion

I don't think it's right for you to say there's no God if there is no evidence for or against it. It makes sense to just say "I don't know" if we should consider every concept of God.

you should also not force children to believe there's no God until we have evidence.

I think it is OK to expose them to religious text but before you do teach them, how to think and evaluate things. This will help in life in general and help them sort out bullshìt claims from the truth.

That’s been sympathetic, if you say a thing exist, you will have to define that thing first , state the features and prove that it does exist.
If you can’t prove it with evidence, it can be rejected without evidence.

Also in religion, Zeus is a God, so if you were asked if there is evidence for zeus, you will say you don’t know?
Not to forget that zeus was worshipped in ancient israel longer than we have worshipped Abrahamaic gods.

If i come up to you and say “Jpqsd” exist, will you say “you don’t know”?, cause what is the difference between “God” and “Jpqsd”?

I can also fabricate features of Jpqsd, one of its features is omnikinesis.

If you are truly agnostic, you will be to everything, even leprachaun, santa and cartoon characters and not only to the English word “god”.

First off start from the origin of the word “god”, is it something that can exist?
And remember all religions are traditional.
