So after all the hullabaloo that followed the launch of Threads, what do tech heads here that are also on the fedi think about threads joining?

For those who don't know, Threads plans to implement their version of ActivityPub that will enable it integrate with the likes of Mastodon, Calckey, Pleroma and the other fediverse software. That means unlike twitter where your username is @username, your Threads username will be @username@threads.net )
(which is why you have threads.net next to your username). In theory, this would mean that I (on a Mastodon instance) could follow anyone on a Threads.net instance without being on Threads.

How do you feel about non-Threads users able to see and respond to your posts? How do you think it will open up and democratise the space?

Threads joining the fedi verse would be disasterous and make people disbelieve in the open source model meaning all information is free, privacy is essential for everyone and libre as in freedom

Most people disagreed against threads joining the fediverse and said that Meta bribed their way with some Mastodon mods

Meta has never wanted to be part of Foss that's why they chose to be a propertiary bloatware and capitalist surveillance system

I already see threads failing in no distance time ,Mark just rushed an unfinished product to market because of the Twitter chaos
Sun tao zu once said in midst of chaos , there is a gold mine so in midst of Twitter chaos threads is actually the gold mine.

Threads is the hell of unfinished app
People are already complaining about some certain things on the app like not seeing your followers count .

Capital NO!
I see people complaining about how "bland" mastodon looks and I end up wondering why they even bothered joining in the first place.
I didn't escape these platforms only for some idiots to come cry the same way immigrants in France tried to turn the country into the hellhole they literally escaped.
It'll be RSS all over again.

Not sure I want to go down that RSS route again. Need two way communication. So with Mastodon and it's siblings Calckey/Misskey and Pleroma, I actually enjoy the so-called "blandness". It offers me a big escape from the chaos, ads and algorithm driven madness that the mainstream solutions are filled with. With threads, I think it's actually going to be detrimental to fedi, I see them trying to funnel other instance users into their instance by implementing ActivityPub just enough to make it incompatible with mainstream. Today, my engagements on Mastodon for example are pure clean engagements, with my timeline containing only things I care about. With threads, I worry that all of that will change. Luckily there's is the "defederation" option. And if my instance decides to be "foolish", I go just export my data and move to another instance

I actually think they did bribe admins of some fedi instances and muzzled them with an NDA. Let's see how Threads itself unfolds cos right now, it feels like a product in alpha.

Good day. I know you don't do this but please; I'd like you to make an exception for me. Please, do you mind recommending any in-demand tech skill that an undergrad, with a low-end laptop, learn? Any skill at all. I want a skill where with constant practice; I should be able to start looking for jobs/internships in a year.
