I can make a calculated guess that the gabion viper was killed somewhere in the southwest,it is more prevalent there,I am a farmer and all my life I have not seen that species in the east,but I saw a bone chilling monster sized one killed on a project site in abeokuta,till today I still have bad dreams about that snake

It is called Oka in Yoruba language, very gentle and aggressive at the same time. It doesn't just strike any how only when you step on it's tail or it's spiritually provoked. Many times we've mistakenly stepped on it while working in the farm and it would not do anything but stepping on it's tail is tantamount to death that's why it usually hide its tail from where anything can tamper with it.
The head alone can be sold for about 3-5k for those people called lekuleja.

Because it's sweeter than every other snakes, packed with fats inside. My wire trap has caught it several times.

It's a lie. It doesn't strike without being provoked and the only provocation is stepping on its tail. It's very common here in Southwest. We see it almost everyday except you don't go to farm regularly.

The right word is venomous and not poisonous. And yes its a gabion viper. Though they are very docile and not aggressive.
