The Labour Party (LP) has reacted to a warning by President Bola Tinubu and his legal team to the Presidential Election Petition Court (PREPEC) sitting in Abuja.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Tinubu, through his counsel, allegedly told the Tribunal that nullifying the election that brought him to power on account of the 25 percent of lawful votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory could lead to chaos.

Reacting in a statement, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, said that the statement was unnecessary and could be construed as interference with the duties and responsibilities of the judiciary.

The party said that the law is the law and that if the constitution has stated that a presidential candidate must score at least 25 percent in the FCT before he can be declared, then anything short of that cannot remedy it.

The Labour Party also recalled a recent statement by the APC-led administration in which it warned that “the unnecessary illegal orders used to truncate or abridge democracy will no longer be tolerated.”

The party said it sees this as a call on the APC’s “armies” to return to the “trenches” and unleash terror on its supporters.

The Labour Party said that if there were no “absurdity, chaos, and anarchy” when the APC forced its way into power, Nigeria would still witness peace when it is eventually evicted from power.

He said, “The Labour Party has taken note of the news making the round purportedly from the leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he allegedly warned the Presidential Election Petition Court (PREPEC), that interpreting the law as provided for in the constitution on the 25% of lawful votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, could “lead to absurdity, chaos, anarchy and alteration of the very intention of the legislature.”

“We are worried that the statement which formed part of his submissions and was contained in his final written address against the Labour Party’s petition pending at the PREPEC, and meant to be in the exclusive custody of the court was leaked to the media.

“We still do not know the reason behind this act of desperation, even when the matter is still pending in court. We will however be careful not to term the action as “Sub-judice”.

“Having said that, the Labour Party thinks that the statement was unnecessary since the matter is already before the court, and going ahead to pontificate on it could be construed as interference in the duties and responsibilities of the judiciary.

“The truth of the matter is that there are no sentiments when it comes to matters of law. The law is the law and once the law has stipulated the manner and how a matter must be carried out, it must follow that pattern.

“If the law has stated the requirement that a presidential candidate must meet before he can be declared, there is no shortcut to it.

“Therefore, if the constitution which is the ground norm of the law in Nigeria has stated clearly that you must score at least 25 percent in FCT before the president can be declared, anything short of that can not remedy it. “

“It is on this note that we request, that caution must be applied by the camp of the APC in its subtle but very clear pressure believed, is being mounted on the judiciary to see the developments from its lense.

“We insist that no amount of threat from the APC on the judges in the tribunal can change the processes and requirements that the law has put in place. It must be followed and that is the position of the Labour Party.

“We recall very clearly a mild but stern threat during the ‘Democracy Day’ Speech made by the APC-led administration where it stated emphatically that “It has become imperative to state here that the unnecessary illegal orders used to truncate or abridge democracy will no longer be tolerated.”

“We noted then that the warning appeared threatening enough as it sounded more totalitarian but today we are confronted with a sterner approach to whipping the judiciary into a pathway, a development if allowed unchallenged will spell doom for the nation.

“We see in that statement a call on the armies of the APC to awaken to their sworn vow to return to the trenches just the way they unleashed terror on our supporters during the February election.

“The same thugs that perpetrated “absurdity, chaos, and anarchy” and who were used to alter the will of Nigerians are still very present and willing to do the will of their paymasters.

“Let me assure the APC and their leaders that if there were no “absurdity, chaos, and anarchy” when they forced their way into power, Nigeria will still witness peace when they are eventually evicted from power.”

Does APC or any group have monopoly of violence? I think white powder is affecting Pablo EscoBAT's head. If not he wouldn't have had the audacity to threaten Nigeria's existence. The documented narcotic trafficker will surely end up at the Hague.

In my years alive, I have never seen a more brainwashed set of people than the supporters of labour party.

Firstly, the problem been referred to here is the likely pandemonium the 25% in Abuja debate if ratified by the Court will create for future Elections.

> It will elevate Abuja voters above all other states in Nigeria.

> It will go against the constitution of Nigeria that states all votes cast in Nigeria are equal because it will mean casting your votes in Abuja is more important than casting it in Akure, Onisha or Kano.

Secondly, a runoff doesn't itself guarantee that the winner of the runoff will still get the 25% requirement in Abuja. So will we simply continue to go for runoffs until the winning candidate get 25% in Abuja even if he gets 25% in all the 36 states of the federation.

Furthermore, this will put a weird spotlight on the democraphics of Abuja in future Elections which might create an ugly situation. Politicians might just import people from other states to make up the 25% in Abuja which might create an unwanted national debate in the future. Tribes will begin to fight over who should be allowed to vote in Abuja etc.

In conclusion, Tinubu's lawyer in his final written argument to the judges is only pushing his legal points with real life likely scenarios that might come out of the judgement.

Tinubu knows he is going down reason he now resort to threatening the judiciary with a phantom anarchy and chaos.

The security agencies should be on red alert and ensure that Tinubu is held responsible for any anarchy and chaos that will emanate as a result of being sacked by the courts

What you need to understand is that Abuja is the seat of power, if votes are the same then any candidate that gets highest number of votes wins. no need for 25% in 2/3 of the States. Besides, why was the word "including FCT" not used, why "AND FCT"? that means that FCT is a must.
Think before you type, you can manipulate votes easily in any other state but you can't manipulate that of Abuja easily. States have Governors that write results even before the voting starts but Abuja has no Governor.

Abuja should be used as the yardstick for every state.
