A sexual predator has been jailed for raping a 15-year-old teenage girl after pushing her into a patch of bushes in a South London park.

Abiola Lawal, 33, had targeted his victim after spotting her outside a McDonalds near Peckham Rye station before following her as she walked home.







Jurors heard that Lawal had been selling cannabis on the busy street when he spotted the teenager as she was out shopping for hair products on January 30, 2022. The two were “complete strangers” when Lawal first began to call out to her while she was on the phone to a friend.


“Initially she ignored him, but he started to walk towards her and so she stopped,” prosecutor Catherine Milsom said. “He said he wanted to speak with her, told her to hang up and talk to him instead. He asked her how old she was and if she had a boyfriend.”


After informing him of her age and that she was in a relationship, Lawal responded: “That’s a shame because you’re so cute,” before asking if he could perform a sex act on her. After refusing him and stating that she wanted to go home, he walked alongside her and later dragged her into an area of bushes on Elm Grove.

He caused “significant injuries to her hands” which included splinters and told her, “shush, no one will see” when she protested. In her police interview, his victim said that she was aware of what was about to happen but “didn’t know what to do”.

Lawal then pulled down her leggings and raped her with the prosecutor saying: “She was shouting to stop, that he was hurting her and that she didn’t want this but the defendant didn’t stop until he ejaculated inside her.”

Afterwards, he added her number into his phone under the name ‘Hoe 2’ before telling his victim that he would “see her soon”.

After he left, she phoned her friend in “floods of tears”, while her mum reported the incident to the police at 6.56pm and took her daughter to the Havens sexual assault centre in Whitechapel.

Intimate swabs were taken with Lawal’s DNA and his semen discovered on her sanitary towel. Police officers identified her attacker through a distinctive jacket he was seen wearing on CCTV and was arrested the following day. Following a trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted by the jury and was today jailed for nine years with an extended five years on licence.

In a pre-sentence report ahead of his sentencing, it was determined that Lawal was “highly manipulative and predatory”. Judge Silas Reid said: “I note the fact that you called your victim a hoe in your phone just after you raped her. Your assessor said you have a grandiose view of yourself by the order of the report. It’s also said that their assessment is that it wounds your masculine sense of pride that a young woman would reject your sexual advances.

“Your views are misogynistic, you hold views of women being beneath you. In the report, you also referred to your victim as a b**ch on a number of occasions.”

While Lawal had written a letter to express remorse, Judge Reid agreed with the report that “that letter is just hollow words and it confirms your lack of empathy”.

The court also heard that Lawal committed the offence while in breach of an 18-month suspended sentence, after he was convicted of a battery that took place on January 8, 2021. He had attacked his partner by putting his hand around her throat and “scratching her and punching her face”.

Lawal, of Plumstead High Street, was jailed for nine years with an additional five years on licence.

Throughout the hearing, he made a number of gestures with his head in his hands, before shouting out in disbelief at the length of his sentence.
