Flesh is an object of sacrifice .

When God created man he created him with the intent that man would live sacrificialy by denying himself the desires of his flesh in order to honor God .
He created the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and left it at man's reached with the expectation that man will sacrifice the Desires of his flesh to obey God's will in the spirit .

So in every act of obedience there is a demand for sacrifice .

God is self-sacrificial and he wanted to see if man would follow suit .
It is by this that he places a whort on himself .

He want to see if man would choose to sacrifice himself in order to honor God as in the case of Jesus or if he would chose to cherish his own life and dishonor God .

So it is written :
2 Corinthians 4:11-12
[11]For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

God gave man life in the flesh and the soul .
Yet in a man who is born-again lies another kind of life which is the life of God himself .

God had the expectation that man would deliver his own life to death and instead allow God's life that is within him to live and be expressed through him .

This can not be achieved without man dying to his own self which would incure pain and sufferings to the man in other to enable God's own life to manifest through him which is always contrary to to his own life .

Jesus died that we might live ,and now there is a demand that we also die that he might live .
We have no life to live here on Earth for our lives are hidden in him in the heavenly places .

Jesus is the one who should live through us ,and when we appear before him he will ask us to keep that eternal life forever .

Mark 8:34-35
[34]When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
