What I want to share with today is about 6 blunders to avoid if you want to generate quality Traffic and leads into your business and sales funnel.

As you may already know, Traffic is the lifeblood of any online business. I'm not talking about the Lagos traffic that can be about 2-miles long with no movement at all.

No, I'm talking about online traffic.

You need it if you want to make sales or grow your business. In fact, without traffic, your online business isn't a business, it's just an expensive hobby.

Generating traffic is no small thing. It can be very confusing and complicated especially for people that have: little experience, little or no followers online or little to no money to spend on ads. And even if they do, it's still not a guarantee they will get their money's worth.

Which is why about 2 months ago, I decided to nosedive into the topic and this post is some of the things I learnt.

1)Not starting with Product-market Research: This is perhaps the number 1 reason why businesses fail. They burn their cash on traffic generation before they know whether their product or service is genuinely the proper fit for the market. Solely focusing on their own wants and desires and forgetting to consider the needs and interests of the market audience.
You can have the best marketing strategy in the world, but if the product or service is a poor fit for the market, your ROI will be very low.

So, before you invest your time and money into marketing efforts to generate traffic, ask yourself if your product satisfies the market audience. And you can only figure this out by conducting a thorough product-market research.

2) Only Using Free Programs: Ever heard the phrase 'Spend money to make money'? For the most part this statement is true. If you have been trying to generate traffic for a while and your results are not growing, it may be time to upgrade your program. When starting out it's fine to use a free program, but upgrading to a paid system can increase your traffic by tenfold.

Let me explain, if your method of traffic generation is email marketing, and you are limited to 1000 free contacts, you will find your ability to grow hindered. So why not pay for it anyway. You want the full support and benefits of these programs. Don't limit yourself to marketing only with what's in the free subscription, you won't grow your business that way.

3) Spreading Too Thin: When you only have a certain amount of money to spend it's important to learn quickly and concentrate on the most effective channels for traffic generation to avoid wasting your budget. Don't spread your money out too thinly on many channels. You'll end up with very little results everywhere, which will not help you draw any meaningful conclusions. To draw conclusions from the data you need volume.

So instead, pinpoint effective channels and spend your money on them, but don't neglect the rest.
For example, if you've been generating a lot of traffic from Instagram, pump more money into the platform and still set some money aside for Facebook ads. To pinpoint effective channels, you need to run traffic generation experiments and test different channels with clarity. Give yourself enough time to learn which channels are most effective.

4) Cramming Their Content with Many Keywords: A lot of people think that if they cram their content with lots of keywords, it will attract lots of visitors.
This is entirely false, and never works. What ends up happening is that search engines categorize them as spammers and end up pushing their content down in ranking which will cost them leads and potential buyers that would have read their content and purchased their product.
A better strategy will be to choose just a few top keywords to use in their content and adjust the phrasing to sound natural. And also creating the right content to attract visitors.

5) Not making use of enough Lead generation tools: Oftentimes, people underestimate the power of lead generation tools. They only make use of one tool. The uncomfortable truth is that you can't do lead generation with just one tool.
With the ever-evolving technology, there are tons of tools that can help complement their marketing efforts and scale up their business tremendously. I mean just think about all the different types of software you need:

-Marketing automation
-Website visitor identification
-Website analytics
-In product analytics
-Social media management
-Tracking software etc.

Also, these softwares help answer questions like: where are the leads coming from? What keyword did they search for before landing on their page? What pages are they looking at on their website? and also providing other functions like automating your sales process to get things done faster.
To gain an edge in lead generation you need to find the right mix of these tools.

6) Not following up with your leads quickly: leads are higher quality when they are fresh. If you wait 2 to 3 days after a prospect has submitted their information and joined your list to follow up on them, they are far less likely to become your customer. Follow up speed is important. I’d recommend that you create time twice per day to follow up with any new leads that have been generated. That way you’ll increase your chances of converting them to buyers.

Here's why I wrote this post - Many people find the entire process of running ads and traffic generation complicated. And they are also tired of wasting money on paid ads with no return on their investment.

This ought not to be so especially since there's an easier and more fun method to generate high quality traffic and consistent leads without paying for ads.
