The Nigeria we want is one where there is religious tolerance. Religious intolerance is one of the cankerworms that have eaten deep into the fabric of Nigeria. It is more pronounced among Christians and Muslims in Nigeria. For instance, on the 19th of May, 2022, the video recordings of Deborah Yakubu, who was killed in a horrific manner and her body set ablaze by irate Muslim students in Sokoto on the allegation of blasphemy, filtered the internet. Lamentably, justice is yet to be done as her killers are yet to be prosecuted.

We want a Nigeria where police brutality will not threaten our fundamental human rights, particularly the Right to Life. Many lives have been cut short and families marred for life as a result of police brutality in Nigeria. For instance, on the 25th of December 2022, Mrs Raheem Bolanle, who was pregnant, was fatally shot by a police officer attached to the Ajiwe police division in the Ajah area of Lagos state. The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) is meant to protect us and not kill us. Additionally, we want a Nigeria where we will be free to engage in peaceful protests without being intimidated or cowed into submission by the Police force or the Military as it happened during the ENDSARS protest in 2020.

In addition, the Nigeria we want is one where Insecurity will not show its ugly face to ravage our communities, send our people to early graves, and cause us to sleep with one of our eyes closed. We are afraid to travel, attend functions, and hustle for our daily bread because we do not know when the monster ' Insecurity ' may decide to strike. Kidnappers are having a field day in the West and its Environs, bandits are ravaging Northern Nigeria and Unknown Gunmen are unleashing mayhem in the East. Innocent blood is shed on a daily and in some cases, an entire family may be annihilated.

The Nigeria we want is one where sanctity will be placed on human life and violators promptly arrested and severely punished by the law.

Tribalism, Nepotism, and Favouritism appear to have found fertile soil to grow and germinate in Nigeria. Political offices, academic offices, admission slots and job opportunities in most cases are determined by tribalism, nepotism and favouritism. Candidates are elected into political offices not because they are competent to handle that office but because of tribal affinities. The Nigeria we want is one where competency and quality will hold sway.

We want a Nigeria where our leaders will shun corruption in every form; a Nigeria where our leaders will be accountable; honest; and patriotic. With these virtues on board, corruption will wane drastically.

The just concluded presidential election was fraught with electoral violence, political intimidation, and electoral malpractices. The Nigeria we want is one where elections will be free and fair, devoid of electoral malpractices, intimidation and violence.

In addition, we want a country where the government will prioritise the general welfare of the citizens, particularly Children and Physically Challenged Persons.

One may be tempted to ask if we can achieve the Nigeria we want through " Violent Political Revolution", the answer is “NO”. Violent political revolution is capable of taking Nigeria back to the state of nature where life will be solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short according to Thomas Hobbes. In this vein, it is submitted that violent political revolution should not be explored as the Nigeria we want cannot be achieved through this means.

The Nigeria we want is a product of our collective imaginations and it can only attain the status of reality when we identify with these imaginations and be intentional about them. The Nigeria we want is like a project and all hands must be on deck to ensure that this project is efficiently executed. Every one of us is expected to heed this call of duty as it is never too late for us to chisel the Nigeria we want out of Nigeria's existing quandary.
