Help! My Honda Civic Having Accelerating Issues by Avalani(m): 12:31pm On Jul 28, 2023
Hello house. Please I need help

A couple of months back, I first noticed my Honda civic 2007 when moving does not accelerate/respond when I step on the gas pedal. The rpm needle does not move either. It just maintains a slow/idle speed. However, if I park the car, turn off the engine then restart, it moves and accelerates/respond when I step on gas pedal. The rpm needle moves

Recently, this has been happening more frequently, usually when I move the car in the morning or first time during the day.

Please what can be the problem

Also, a month ago, I noticed a hissing sound whenever I am accelerating, like it is coming from the back tire of driver side. This hissing sound never happens when the car is idle, only when in motion. The hissing sound is not continuous. Sometimes I start the car and move without the hissing sound, then it can start, even at slow speed. The sound sometimes continue if I remove my feet from the gas pedal. Sometimes no hissing sound even if I step on the accelerator. Generally, I get this feeling that the car does not "move" or accelerate well like I know it to do when I step on the accelerator

Also, the ignition does not always pick when I try to start the car. Sometimes I have to try it 3-8 times before it starts. It is not a battery issue. I took it to a mechanic who says it is not the kick starter either.

Recently, I noticed the faster I turned the key, the more likely the engine will start on first try

Check if your exhaust is blocked though I will prefer if you scan your car first.

Check your fuel pump, maybe the fuel filter is blocked

Check your plug. You can upload a video

Could be many things

From ignition coils to firing or raising sensor

It could be blocked catalyst converter or problem with MAS and accessories sef
Even top gasket if you keep having long starts

Go for a quite scan up

I scanned it today. Got the following codes

P0172
P0456

Also, I observed that my exhaust is smoking a bit when the engine is idly running. This was not the case before

Too much fuel , your engine is burning lean

Ur electrical would judge better (ECU stuff)

Could be nozzles or mass airflow meter

Thanks guys.

Mechanic is insisting my fuel pump is bad, which I know is not the case.

I believe the maf sensor is dirty or bad. I started the engine and disconnected the maf sensor. The engine continued running like nothing happened. I believe this indicates maf sensor is bad.

Can anyone recommend a good cleaner for maf sensor?

It is not maf sensor bro .if it is maf sensor. It will go off once u disconnect it. Its either your catalysts have burnt or one or two of your ignition coils and coil wires are bad. If it is fuel pump,it won't do slow or it won't idle. It will die at idle...or die immediately it starts...thats bad fuel pump.
Smoke coming from your muffler is either oil is getting into the chamber, oil is leaking and getting close contact to the exhaust..or your car is burning oil.....simple. don't let mechanic scatter your car for you.
