The South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA’23) on Thursday asked Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu to address the myriads of challenges confronting the nation. 

National Secretary of SWAGA, Otunba Bosun Oladele, said since assumption of office, President Tinubu had taken bold steps and is on the right path to repositioning Nigeria into its rightful place in the comity of nations. 

He said: “I believe that for the first time in our democratic journey as a country, Nigeria is having a President that got into office prepared for the job. 

Asiwaju Tinubu has been abreast of issues in governance in Nigeria. He has been a rallying point for intellectual and political discourse regarding governmental policies and processes especially via his annual colloquium long before now and he has blazed the trail and set the pace for developmental leadership as two-term governor of Lagos State and senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 

“We as South-West Agenda for Asiwaju is not oblivious of these sterling qualities when we took it upon ourselves to sensitize the new generation of Nigerians and mobilize support for his candidature for the elections at the time we started in 2020. 

“It is no accident, therefore, that he has taken very bold steps and made courageous decisions since his assumption of office in May.” 

Listing some of the landmark achievements of the President, Oladele said: “He did well by sticking with his campaign promises and announcing the removal of the fraudulent fuel subsidy from the inauguration ground and he went in to unify our exchange rates, thus removing the arbitrary windows in our forex policies. 

“The appointment of the Service Chiefs has changed the tempo of the war against banditry and insurgency and even tamed oil thefts to a larger extent while his readiness to listen to differing opinions from the populace is unprecedented. 

“The recent ministerial list though an ongoing process is already indicating a careful selection of a dependable team he is willing to work with without throwing away the needed sense of unity. 

“I am sure we are in for a good time and repositioning as a leader of the Black race. 

“As a group, we continue to plead with Nigerians for understanding and patience as the positive changes envisaged are beginning to unfold. 

“At the same time we appeal to our numerous members all over the country to be patient as we believe that our efforts will be duly rewarded in due course”.

"...The troubles with Bola Tinubu’s candidacy are enormous. Some are within his control, while others are not. No candidate for the presidency of Nigeria has ever come into the campaign with much political baggage as Tinubu, not even Muhammadu Buhari. We can find in three folds everything wrong with Muhammadu Buhari in Bola Tinubu.

The self-inflicted personal baggage of Tinubu is well known to all. His inability to present a straight biography is one of them. Nothing about him is straightforward; his age, his name, his certificates, his schools (primary, secondary, university), his parents, his source of wealth, the state of his health, his ever-changing ideology, etc. Even his classmates are unknown.

Though possession of a crooked biography has never stopped anyone from being the president of Nigeria, the case of Tinubu is so egregious. They are coming at a point when Nigerians are less tolerant of such character flaws.

It does not help that more and more Nigerians are beginning to see the correlation between such flaws and the performance of the bearer, as Muhammadu Buhari exemplified.

His major moves have been disastrous so far. Subsidy removal, money printing, fx rate collapse, education loan and subsidy removal, N1tr saving when indebt, insecurity persists, no clear defined direction, failures as appointees.
God help Nigerians.

Came prepared whereas after the removal of the petrol subsidy, one of the most outstanding step was the proposal for 114% increase in the salaries of of the political appointment and elected officials. The other issues are making it difficult for the children of the poor to afford education.

We wish him the best.. I'm glad he handled the religious tensions smartly.
