13 Radical Suggestions For A Better Nigeria by Professor822714: 5:44am On Jul 31, 2023
1. Attitude towards the weak in society: The old, disbled, babies, infirm and animals are treated with more.care than the able bodied in the society. For each of these people there are places, people and programs that cater for them 24/7. Retirement homes are well built with good staff and facilities. Disabled people are able to access free services and get disability benefits monthly. Animals are taken care of as well. There's doggy motels, rspca takes care of stray animals and there's shelters too.

2. Consumption culture in social events:
500 people at a wedding /funeral to eat rice, meat, fufu, eba, etc. Spraying money and paying upwards of 2million for an event with little or no return on investment or multiplier effect on the economy! The sad part is that most people can't even afford these things and are forced to take loans to fund these events.
Until this culture changes, unfortunate things won't change in Nigeria- not saying the whites don't do some of these things, but the difference is that they can afford it- neither do they spray money!
3. Wage structure: The per hour wage system makes it hard to hide at work like our civil servants in Nigeria. You clock in to work and out at break and upon leaving- if you forget, too bad otilo! This makes money valuable to the worker, hardly do you see Nigerians who do oer hour work wasting ther money o!
4. Healthcare system: Health insurance is mandatory for everyone. Even the homeless have to be treated at hospital and the government pays for that thru medicare/medical. Students, workers, elderly, disabled -everyone is taken care of. The rich ones can choose to have private Healthcare - HMo or ppo ( I'm not an Expert lol). Same in the UK, there's nhs for everyone.
5.Political system: The electoral college system is something that needs to be studied and applied in Nigeria. Instead of Abuja having 25%, certain states also should havea greater or lesser percentage I determining the winner of elections. For example, I think California has certain points as compared to other states and it all total to 538. Im sorry to say this but Lagos and zamfara votes shouldn't be the same. All states in Nigeria aren't equal- truth be told! A voter in Lagos prolly pays 100% more tax than one in yobe.
6. Immigration policy: People walking across the borders in yobe, sokoto, etc is a joke! No country accepts that crap! All the borders should be properly created and manned by a post. No country wants the worst to be in there! That's why you have the points based system and highly skilled fresh talent programs . Tell me whats highly skilled in yobe state or kebbi state?!
7. Approach towards infrastructure & environment : Everyone takes responsibility for the environment. People don't throw garbage anywhere. Trash is properly diposed of. A little here andrhre and it becomes a pile in a few days
8. Credit system: The credit system rewards people who pay their bills on time and are
responsible with their finances and does the opposite to others who aren't. So, in order to buy a car, house, open certain accounts your credit score should be in a certain range. If it's low, it tales time to build.
9. Computerized billing system: Nepa, water, wifi, practically all utilities are computerized, and you can't tweak it. If you don't pay it's off, period! This helps the companies as well.as the consumer cos you can ration your usage.
10. Dignity of labour: Mechanics, security men, police officers, cleaners, care worker- all the jobs we Nigerians look down upon are not perceived the same way overseas. Such people keep the economy going and sometimes earn a decent wage to sustain their families.
11. 24 hour ststem: There is no "closing time" per se- of course the banks, offices and other places are shut at 5pm, but other essential services are available- atms, drive thrus, emergency services etc.
12. Well paid armed forces/no soldier intimidation: Police officers and ther equipment are world class! They are well educated and well built and well taken care of. There's no such thing as Egunje or that foolishness. They respond quickly to situations and don't mess around. Also, soldiers are on their place and you hardly see them interacting with civilians talk less of beating people sef.
13. Mid- way institutions: Nursing homes and group homes are available for those who are not well enough to live alone but also not so sick to Be in hospital. This frees up their relatives from taking care of them and their homes are rented.or sold to foot their bills. Group homes are also utilized for the.autistic, drug rehabs and wayward kids so their families can focus on their lives.

Military coup will ALWAYS happen is there is bad governance.. Nigeria is no exception.

In fact, West African countries learnt Military coup from Nigeria

When legislature becomes RUBBER STAMP and Executive disobeys court orders as it is in Nigeria, Military coup will check the excutive

We should not demonize military rule. On the contrary, it is the best.

Do a comparative Analysis of the Military era and the Democratic era.

Obviously the Military is much more Better

Firstly, soldiers are trained to:
1. Shoot guns and combat
2. Obey orders and defend the nation
3. Other tactical duties and that sort
When you allow them to come into the realm of leading a civil society, they apply the principles of the barracks to civil society and it never ends well.
Having said that, I agree that Nigeria is at risk of a coup at this point due to several obvious factors, however your premise in the first sentence is weak, as military rule does not ALAWAYS happen in bad governance-especially in developed countries- UK, USA, Canada etc.
Africans are the only ones with weak institutions that have failed to put the things I mentioned above into society in order to improve the standard of living.
So tell me, if a coup happens today, and Major general Bello or Hassan or Abdullahi becomes the head of state, what will change? I'll give you a clue:
1. He will close all borders
2. Cancel all appointments
3. Remove all governors
4. Close all airports
5. Stop all civil activities
6. And the list goes on
Meanwhile your life is ticking on and time is going.
