The sailors had their own pagan gods they cried to in the Book of Jonah. Thereafter they cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.

Jonah 1:
5 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship.

7 Then the sailors said to each other, “Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity.” They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. 8So they asked him, “Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What kind of work do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?”

Acts 1:26
Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.
Is this not ifa practice by the apostles just like the sailors did in the Book of Jonah?

For information casting of lots involves divination. If not you mean Jonah was just unlucky to have been picked to be responsible for causing the troubled sea that was going to wreck the ship?

The TRUE GOD OF THE OLD TESTAMENT IS THE ONLY TRUE GOD and not the Roman empire god of the New Testament that got another man's wife pregnant with the invented Jesus Christ which is a Greek/Roman pagan belief.

So when a referee tosses a coin, to you the referee is casting a lot. Why are followers of the invented Jesus Christ so deceptive when the truth is put right in front of them?

LOL... so you never had any upstanding before now what it truly means to cast lot, even though the passages you quoted clearly inform you of the intention behind such exercise?. grin

So you mean Jonah was just unlucky when the lot fell on him, just like in a game of chance when a referee tosses a coin. Dey play. You, @Speep, @preciousee17 and others in your camp need to quickly go and register at the nearest kindergarten near you as that's where you guys are needed.

The Op get certain things wrong. Casting lot or throwing fleece was not strange to Judaism. Gideon used it. Urim and Thumim may have been used same way.

However, the apostles didn't understand that things have changed. Holy Spirit was now the driver not fleece or casting of lots.

Arguing from ignorance still in a new month? Casting lots is something even little children use till today. It's akin to picking rolled paper to determine turns. Only that the Jews believed in a God factor influencing it for the best. So they took the decision as God permitted.

Some killing of birds and goats involve divination, therefore all killing of birds and goats involve divination. Early August jokes.

They were Jews. That time, Christianity had not even started. They brought out a Jewish concept ro solve the problem they had at hand. Casting of lots is never a Christian practice. The Holy Spirit had not yet been given to them.

Jews cast lots. The book of Esther detailed how they cast lots in the days of Mordecai. You mean Judaism is practicing ifa? It's an indictment on you because they cast lots in the old testament.

But, let me tell you the truth. Lots can be cast by anyone. The question is, which God are they calling upon? However, Christians don't cast lots. We rely solely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
